Rejuvinating a secondhand Schott 618 Perfecto

Hey y'all,

Just got this 618 secondhand and wondering if anyone has any insight into what these marks are/if they'll come out with some regular ol' lexol or saddle soap? Damp cloth didn't do the trick, just hoping they're not permanent. It may be mold so I will give it a try with some vinegar/water combo.

Also if anyone has any suggestions about the best way to treat it otherwise (proabbyl fine to just clean and leave as is but if some conditioner would do it good I'm happy to do so).

It also has a rather distinctive closet smell. Not sure if it's mildew, but it's like those old barbour jackets that are in a closet for years. I'm gonna hope sunshine and fresh air and wear help get rid of most of it but if anyone has any suggestions on tackling that, I'm alll ears.

The back collar button is missing and I'm debating if it's worth getting reparied by Schott but if they have a cleaning/conditioning service maybe that would make it worth the while. I'd love a collar down the road but nothing urgent.

Lastly, I take it this jacket is from 2007 based on the tag? Surprised as how short it is (which I think I prefer) compared to current models since my understanding was 2000s era models were longer but who knows with Schott.

Thanks!

If the jacket fits you perfectly, that's 95% luck. If you have time, do not rush to return the jacket. Many people here have experience with cleaning jackets from mold. Maybe someone can share their experience.

What was the price of the jacket?

Indeed a good fit can be rare! Especially with perfectos where you can’t be certain of the cut. I’ve been looking at some old threads and have used some diluted vinegar and will give it significant sunshine tomorrow but based on the work so far it may seem a full wash is the only hope.

All in it was $390.

Based on what I have learned about Schott jackets and how to determine age, that tag style was used prior to 1993. Attached is an example of the tag used in post 93 jackets. That would explain the jacket being shorter.

Interesting, thank you! That would certainly explain the cut and age of it. Other than the mold it's quite nice lol the leather is a bit more stiff/maybe a touch less quality than the current offering but I do like the cut quite a bit.

I agree, it will get a few days in the sun but most likely on its way back. Unfortunately I'm in the US and it has to go back to Italy but alas.
not sure where you bought it but I buy and sell a fair amount of jackets on eBay and a few times I received jackets that were moldy. I reach out to the seller and state the issue and I tell I will return it or I can keep it and deal with cleaning it but refund some money. The times i did that the seller sent back some money ($30-$50). I would do the same for a buyer unless my Ad clearly stated any and all flaws and they still bought.

Not a bad idea! May try it if I end up thinking it's worth keeping, thank you. Based on my interaction in the purchase however and some things being lost in translation I'm not super confident they'll be amenable to that, but only one way to find out.

I have a cowhide jacket that smelled of mold (or mildew, I'm not sure the difference) when I received it from the seller. I didn't want to return it and I tried a number of ways to get rid of the smell but none worked. Finally I sprinkled some clotrimazole powder on it and let it set. Two days later I wiped the powder off and the smell was gone.

Not sure if there is a reason not to do this, but it didn't hurt or stain my jacket and the smell hasn't returned.

I may give that a try! Thanks.
