Back to the thread?
On my second trip to Las Vegas, attending Las Vegas Grind which is no longer an event, I wanted to purchase a pair of vintage shoes for too much money from a vendor. Ok, I had eaten too much at the buffets and was wearing a man's white shirt and man's Levi's instead of my beautiful 60s dresses I normally wore at the time. The helper really didn't want to sell them to me! I was confused, then it dawned on me that I do not have tattoos all over my arms like the other gals, but I wanted the darn pink shoes. So I stood there and said I wanted the shoes at that price anyway. Will you sell them to me please? Or maybe it was my Southern accent (I am being facetious) but I think it was because I was not dressed retro?
War between the states: when my family moved to Rochester NY from Atlanta GA my dad went to register to vote. The woman demanded to see his passport. lol

Indiana was the birthplace of the reincarnated Ku Klux Klan, and I believe there is as much of a Klan presence in that state now as there ever was.And it's been my understanding that this figure is greater than in states closer to the equator. If you have figures to the contrary, I will GLADLY take it under advisement.
There are towns in that state and Illinois that still have a "Six O'Clock Whistle" to this day. A good friend of mine grew up in that area and easily remembers these into the early 1980s, and other friends who confirm them now.

IF and it's a BIG IF, we're going to go down the holier-than-thou road of stereotyping geographical regions as full of ignorant, racist, bigots, let's then, get our geographical regions straight before we level accusations.

I was refused a job once because I wasn't "gothy" enough. I was dressed too normal.

I started to laugh, because the woman was wearing clothing *I* designed. When I pointed that out, went to my car and got my samples I had, I declined the job.

And guys, the war of the States, for one it's over, for another, I know both sides...and have lived in both...and it goes both ways.

Good point Tommy. And that flag and those attitudes don't make them southerners, it makes some of them racists. I am a southerner through and through, am not a racist and don't even own a so-called confederate flag.

Well, everyone has their jealousies now don't they? Let them think they're from the south if that makes them feel better.;)

Why would Kentuckians be jealous of the flag designed for a Confederacy that lost its war of separation? If anything, they're honoring the "real" South by adopting the losing side's biggest symbol, instead of just sticking to the winner's.

And here I thought that the civil war ended a long time ago.

I never knew we had one. Technicaly, it wasn't a civil war. A civil war is when 2 or more groups are vying to take control of a country. The South seceded. The South had no urge to take control of the entire Union.

Oh you must be talking about the War of Northern Agression, the War for Southern Independence, the War Between the States. Yes yes it did end a long time ago, which is why we always have to wonder why there are so many who want to cast their typical haughty aspersions down on us.

Jeesh, it was a joke, hence the wink.

Okay, I'll bite. What about the flag is not of the Confederacy?

.

It was only the flag for one group of the southern armies. There are actually numerous battle flags and state confederacy flags. Unfortunately it was adopted by the Klan and then many proud southerners tried to take it as their own, but it will always have that taint attached to it I'm afraid.
