Refund Help... Please.

I hope you guys can offer some advice.

I ordered an A-2 jacket from a well-established US vendor back in April, received it in May and returned it a week later.
It looked like a decent jacket and the guy seemed nice and answered all my questions. He GUARANTEED that if for whatever reason I wanted to return the jacket, that would be NO problem. Easy. No. :eusa_doh:
Since I returned the jacket at the end of May, I have yet to receive this refund!
Its been over 4 months! :eeek:
I have sent a dozen emails and occasionally he replies that, “he thought the refund was processed and he will look into it”… Always the same reply…
I am still waiting.
I feel this is disgusting and would love to have this resolved and move on.

Unfortunately I am oversees and this makes it trickier.
This is exactly WHY its becoming harder for me to ‘pul the trigger’ on a new jacket. What has happened to people’s integrity?

Has anyone else experienced an issue like this?
What would you gents suggest?

Firstly, I want to give you my sympathy.
Secondly, I think you should name and shame this guy, so that none of the rest of us get caught out.
Thirdly, you know his business address, so I'd suggest searching the internet for that area's Better Business Bureau, who should be able to offer you legal advice, and light a fire under this guy (in the legal sense of the word).

Sorry you have to go through this but yeah, I also think you should let us know who it is you're dealing with. filmjackets.com has an entire forum dedicated to shady vendors and practices, and from reading the comments there, seems like it saved a lot of people a lot of money.

Naming him will either expedite your refund or at the very worst, warn everyone else away from a less than reputable dealer. Perhaps an email to him linking to this thread stating that you will name him if he doesn't sort out the issue asap?

I was about to edit my post but yes, +1 on what ProteinNerd said - naming them here might actually be the best advice anyone can give you as there's nothing quite as bad for a vendor as bad publicity.

Might work. I'm always wary of putting a metaphorical gun to a maker's head, though. Especially, if this the person in question is who I think it is.

I 2nd what Otter just said. All things equal best to pay with a credit card. With PP there is a much more narrow window of opening a grievance or getting a refund.

It depends how you paid, as others have said.

If there was an absolute, undisputable guarantee of an unconditional return and refund, then this should be honoured. If it were me, I'd expect a refund soon after the jacket was received in as-new condition by the vendor.

Personally, I wouldn't go naming and shaming. I always take the view that it's best to treat people as respectfully as you'd like to be treated, and the 'shame' route denies the other party a voice. And I wouldn't play to the crowd here, it's not a classy move, and the popcorn effect detracts, I think, from the general good mood of this place. That's just me, though. [huh]

It's up to you, though, if you feel you've exhausted all avenues and you still can't get this matter resolved.

I didn't even want to mention it here, but kinda need some options... Its tricky, cause I would also want to know about it if I was someone reading this post.
I would prefer for this to be resolved amicably, but it seriously annoys me to have to go through this. It should not have to be this way.

This jacket was a stock std size with FULL returns no quibble guarantee... apparently. Not like its a special custom jacket.

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate the advice.

There IS a time limit on PayPal Claims. If I recall correctly you may have already passed the time limit if you paid for the jacket in May. Never... EVER mess around when it comes to refunds, know your time limits and monitor it weekly or daily.

Okay, it sounds like you've given the vendor the benefit of the doubt, but in doing so I think - as Worf says - this has taken you beyond the PP time limit.

What I'd do at this point is tell him you've held up your end and expected him to do the same. There may be a good reason why the refund hasn't appeared, such as illness or whatever, and this is the time for them to do the right thing.

Here's what I would do: Get your documents and timeline all in order, then call both PayPal and your credit card company's customer service department. Give them the full rundown. Very often they will go outside thier standard policy for time limits on dispute claims....Following that, send both paypal and the credit card company an email with copies of all your files. Then, contact the BBB with the same strategy and information. Then, contact the seller and tell him all the steps you've taken to date and that you expect his full and timely cooperation in complying with his sales terms. And if he doesn't respond, go nuclear on his ass.

Such a an awful feeling. Been there before myself

Can of worms I opened. It was a post on the VLJ forum. It finally got settled and the artwork looked to be well worth it. One of the nicest jackets I've seen. I'm a firm believer in giving people the benefit of the doubt when problems arise, but not getting refunded would cause alarm.

I do not think you need to 'shame' the seller but put the info incl sellers name, up on here incase someone knows him/her and can offer some insight. You will not be shaming him buy stating the facts and asking for help in getting your product back. If you come here and insult him, or accuse him of stealing your jacket, then thats one thing. But if you say 'so and so has not replied or sorted my proboem, does can anyone help?'. I mean its been ages and there really is not excuse what with todays technology (email paypal, internet banking accounts etc etc). As a seller myself, really there is no excuse so I think you have given this business more than enough time to sort it out or at least provide you with a valid reaosn why they should not refund you.

For anyone who has used Paypal, and the money has not been received within Paypal's stipulated timeframe for openeing a dispute, I think it is always best to open a dispute on Paypal's website even if the vendor has agreed to return your money. That way you have Paypal's involvement from the beginning of the process to facilitate your reimbursement for the return. Now it appears you have no jacket and are also out the money as well. :rage:
