I'm looking for info on these products. What's the big deal with the shampoo, any good, what's the difference? Is it worth the cost?

Thanks,

M8

P.S. I noticed no Grooming sub forum at FL for men, so I posted here. Also posted over at Andy's.

I LOVE Redken Shampoo and Conditioner. I use the Clear Moisture type. It just works great on my hair. And I buy it when Ulta has their Liter sale, so it ends up not being anymore than Pantene for example. They have a couple different types, depending on your hair. You can get small ones at Ulta too so you can try different ones, and I think they only run about 3 bucks.

Personally I love Redken products.

I have a yard of hair, so shampoo and conditioner is really important to me. I am currently using their smooth down line, which has a lot of oils and silicones in it, so it is very different from the usual stuff at the drugstore. I really like it, and it has helped my overly dry hair out. For me it is totally worth it, since I have special needs hair. I've also used their extreme line, which is good too.

Since you are a man, unless you have longer or really textured hair, the shampoo that I am using would be a disaster for you. In fact, for anyone with fine, oily or really short hair it would be a really bad choice. I also oil my hair, which is something that most people wouldn't be able to do.

You might try some of their other lines though, but if you have short hair, you would be better off sticking to their styling products (which are also good). Unless you are having problems with your hair, i.e. a guy with super curly hair trying to do a longer on top 1920's hair style, or color, their shampoos probably won't be worth it for you. However, for ladies with over-styled hair they are perfect.

Yep, I agree. If you're a guy with short hair and you don't have any special hair needs, just use whatever shampoo suits you~ even if it's Suave!

However, as a hairdresser, I do highly reccomend Redken products if you have issues. There are many different ones for different hair types.

Redken used to make a bar of shampoo. I used this exclusively when I travelled a great deal as an actor in regional theatre in the late 70's. This was a terrific product for me, Today it would travel well since the limitations on liquids by number of ounces per product allowed in air travel. I wonder if this particular product still exists?

I used to work in a salon that sold Redken products, so it has been a while. I am sure some of them are the same. I know they had a pretty good mens line and the products for severely damaged hair were some of the best. But honestly, unless you are looking for problem specific products, a manufacture like Dove copies the formulas at less than half the price.

I don't know about Redken, but if they don't make it anymore, I know Lush (www.lush.com) makes lots of great shampoo bars.

My hairdresser recommended Redken Extreme shampoo to me after feeling my hair when it was wet. He said it felt like rope! Then again, I had about 3 days worth of hairspray built up, which makes my hair feel totally damaged when it's wet. He did say to use it sparingly though, because it can actually damage your hair MORE instead of repair it if it's been used to often.

My Mom uses Redken exclusively. She buys it through her salon. I have problems with it making my scalp feel oily though.

I wonder if that's what our salon handed out to us... it was a valentine/heart-shaped bar. I used it like soap, now I wonder if it was shampoo.

This is because of the protein. It's good for the hair in limited amounts. But if you over do on the protien it will make your hair brittle. It's a fine ballance! Some hair, esp. bleached and over processed, need a bit more to help build the hair back up.

Products such as Biosilk Silk Therapy, (by Chi), can be bad if used every day.
