They appear to have treadle-type sewing machines. Some have generators, I've seen the shop several times, but I have not asked a lot of details, one thing for sure - no photos allowed. That's one way to really get folks in their community upset - just (don't) start taking photos.

There is a very well done BBC documentary called 'A Secret Life" - filmed around an Amish far in Pennsylvania. Very fascinating to watch.

Cheapest option:
Worn out heels can be easily and cheaply repaired with one of these, no need for a complete resole or even taking of the toplift most of the time since most of the time only one area/edge of the toplift is worn.
(In Germany they are called "Keilstreifen")
Then you could go for a full resole when the rest has worn enough.
