Got this from @jpk_NJ who has been great to deal with, Thanks again! :D

I now get the love for Vanson, although they still seem under-represented here. There is something really solid about their craftsmanship, when you hold it, you know that it is a serious piece of kit.

It is my first Vanson, I couldn't resist that special Chopper. It is a bit tight on me, but it still works for me. What do you think?

Awsome jacket. I sold it to jpkn NJ because it was to small on me, it made me order a custom one from vanson. It's a crazy cool jacket an the pattern is straight up comfortable. Im still waiting on my custom chopper by the way. I ordered it in January, official date in computer is feb 11th for some reason. I actually purchased from leftfields owner because vanson is using cxl leftover from the commando gold run. Great jacket you have, Paul cox

Did you ask for any special custom mods? Or just a regular CXL Chopper?
I really look forward to seeing that!

Can't say I am surprised you ordered one! Really curious to see how it comes out!

I am now thinking that a red version would be really cool lol

I really like the detail, as well, it is one of the features that made me jump for it. Interestingly, I think it works, because their pattern is really well balanced. I do not think that many other makers could pull off these details tastefully.

Badass jacket! Seriously, you pull it off even better than me! Post an update after that stiff x150 hide is fully broken in and soft like Jmaxs. But I could tell that ones going to need a heavy beating to give !

It has already been 3 years since the last post... time flies

Resurrecting this thread with red leather trousers seems valid enough lol

While it may sound outrageous as an idea, I found that they are easier to match than I thought… Or maybe it is just me?

I think the fit works well as is, I wouldn’t get them altered. Both pairs of aero steer hide leather jeans I have (thanks to a member here - Monitor - for them both!) are straight leg as are the (probably also aero made) Sam Walker horsehide jeans I also own.

One pair of steerhide are a bit trimmer cut than the other pair and the horsehide pair. They arguably look the best, but in terms of comfort and wearability the others pairs are superior. And all 3 pairs were second hand to me so somewhat broken in already. And as the jeans break in and mould to you further they just get better and better in both looks and comfort. The horsehide pair in particular are like lounge pants once warmed by body heat!

The only tight leather jeans I own are armoured ones for moto riding. The snug fit is important for crash protection and for fitting inside moto boots. They are comfy for riding in as they are cut for the riding stance and have concertina stretch panels above the knees and upper back and aramid areas (rather than leather) behind the knees (and in one pair round the groin) to further help comfort. But I wouldn’t want to wear them off the moto all day, like I easily can with my casual leather jeans.

Styling wise I tend to avoid wearing double leather, moto riding aside. As leather jeans can be quite full on I typically pair with heavy engineer boots, thick plaid shirts, jumpers etc and my (non-leather) trench-coats if it’s gonna rain (leather pants are great for rainy weather imo).

But of course that’s a personal preference (I also tend to avoid double denim, which is of course widely worn). And like Ton I’m an admirer of bold styling choices, so great to see you rocking these strong looks. FWIW, imo I think the pants work especially well with the brown jackets, in particular the big W collar one, that’s a wonderful autumn look that looks great on you.

Fantastic!

I have a pair of leather jeans that I've never worn in anger. And mine are a mid-blue.

If you can rock red, I don't know what I'm afraid of.

Thanks for all the info! I did notice the pants breaking down significantly. It was initially quite restrictive, especially noticeable when climbing up stairs. But they softened up quickly, thanks to regular walks. Good to know, that making them trimmer will affect the range of motion - elementary, but easy to forget lol

The leather is about 1.2 mm thick, so it makes sense to keep it as is.

I'd guess your moto trousers also have knee and hip protection? That would make them even worse to wear out of the bike.

I also tend to dislike denim on denim myself, but taking the time to think about it, I realised that all these types of combinations I had seen were of the same general colour. With leather there is a wider variety of textures and colours, which makes it essier to combine.

It is all thanks to @Monitor as well, he’s the one who got me in this, although the colour choice was mine. I thought if I am going in, I might as well go full on. :D

Thanks for your insights, I will definitely be wearing this combination for autumn!

Fantastic!

I have worn them all over the place, and didn't have any issues, so you can easily test out yours. If people are comfortable going out in their lounge pants, we should be confortable going out in leather trousers :)

Thanks! Just having fun :D

Yeah, my moto leather tousers indeed have knee and hip armour fitted as you suspected, which as you say adds to the potential for discomfort. Though as these moto trousers (Vanson, BKS, Crowtree) are designed and cut with fitting armour in mind its actually fine once the armour is broken in, even with the thicker level 2 CE armour (Sitting in front of TV flexing armour for a while before first fitting it helps!).

So I’d always recommend folk who ride fit armour to their riding kit. With the right armour (D30, Forcefield and SAS-TEC all good options) and correctly designed/cut clothing, comfort is not really an issue and anyway the extra protection is still well worth any minor niggles if they arise..

Agreed, you're much better off riding with armour on. Speaking of which, if you were making a new suit and had to choose armour, would you choose any in particular between those mentionned? Or any would do?

it’s complicated. I did a very in-depth post in a moto forum here:

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=57787&highlight=Forcefield

But In brief:
Forcefield is the most protective (for the same thickness) or thinner for same protection, is the lightest, has (some) venting and decent coverage, but is not the cheapest and is stiff (though when body heat warms it it softens) .

D3O is nearly as protective thickness for thickness as forcefield, is the most flexible, has good venting but is heavy, some versions lack coverage and again it is not cheap.

SAS-TEC is generally thicker/a bit less protective, with not much venting but has many different shapes and sizes to choose from, is light (tho’ not as light as forcefield), flexible and cheap.

My own personal choices that I’ve made for kit I wear are forcefield level 2 for shoulders, elbow, knees and hips (with SAS-TEC for some jacket shoulders for max coverage) and D3O viper pro level 2 back protectors as they are nearly as protective as forcefield with big coverage and much more flexability.

if speccing a 1 piece suit for the track I’d probably not include an integral back protector and instead have space to wear a full length forcefield back protector with waist belt and shoulder harness that is separate from the suit and worn underneath. If money no object I’d get BKS to make me a made to measure race suit including the tech air airbag protection system.

I hope that helps! Ride safe.

Thanks @yellowfever !

This is great info, I will go with Forcefield on the custom I am making (In Japan, they are happy to sew in any protection requested but I need to provide it). This will be for the road. I have no track experience yet, although I would like to try it one day.

NB I got some more Forcefield isolator 2 armour (yellow colour) recently - the parent company of forcefield got taken over recently and moved the old UK factory to new factory in another part of UK so can be supply issues currently. On plus side if you can find remaining stocks (ebay, amazon are your friend) then it can be had for much cheaper than normal price.
