Recommendations to remove glue residue

Fellow G-1 Jacket Collectors,
Good evening and Happy New Year. Hope you all had a safe and restful holiday. I have a question. I recently acquired a very pristine Orchard M/C G-1 jacket owned by a US Coast Guardsman. Only item I removed was the velcro name tag tape. However, when I removed it I discovered that it had been glued on prior to being sewn on. I used hot water and soap and some GooGone to try to remove the residue and got most of it off. What remains is a white residue that is flush with the leather. Any recommendations on how to safely remove this residue without damaging the leather? Your advice and counsel is greatly appreciated.

I would definitely ask a dry cleaner about this. Anything that releases glue should do it, but I have no idea what that might do to the leather. Steam might loosen it, but your best bet might be to buff it or cover it with a bit of polish...

Try heating the glue up a bit with a hair dryer to soften it and make it more tacky. Then apply some tape onto it and peel off. Hopefully the glue will bond to the tape and come off with it.
I have no experience with leather, but have done this on other materials and had pretty good results.

I have seen both tea Tree oil and WD40 used for such jobs in the past. Be careful tho' !

Applied with a cotton bud of course ! Removed with damp rag

Some olive oil maybe? Depends what Kind of glue it is.

Modern Velcro tape sometimes comes on a roll with backing tape and a soft ‘rubbery’ glue which softens when warm. Check with a Velcro maker how to remove the glue before attempting to use any solvent that might damage the surface of your jacket or remove the dye.

Modern Velcro tape sometimes comes on a roll with backing tape and a soft ‘rubbery’ glue which softens when warm. If you get no response from the maker then start gently and work up a notch at a time. So begin with a warm hair drier and a soft lint free cloth and press it against the glue and warm it to try to get the glue to adhere to the cloth. Next try to roll away the glue by pulling the edge of the cloth sideways parallel to the surface of the leather. Use sideways actions as vertical movements might pull the surface layer of the leather away. If it doesn’t work try gently rubbing the glue away with a soft pencil eraser. If neither method works you may have to use a solvent.
