Recommendation for hat maker for vintage-style hat?

Hello all--

I've got a few vintage hats that I love, but still haven't found my perfect hat and would love to just get someone to make it.

I've looked at a number of hatmakers I've seen mentioned on the Fedora Lounge but generally find two challenges -- either I can't afford $500+ for a hat or the hatmakers are putting more of a contemporary spin on their hats.

I really just want a classic American open-crown fedora based closely on some of the styles from the 1930s/1940s/1950s.

Is there anyone doing this for a few hundred dollars?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much,

David

Try contacting Mike at Northwest Hats.

The Northwest Hat Co. (northwesthats.com)

He made me an early thirties style fedora a few years back, my "gangster hat". I specified everything - the felt, color, brim width, crown height, lining color, sweatband type, ribbon size and color, brim binding... His prices have gone up a bit since then, but are still reasonable for the quality.

Yes, Mike is a master at recreating a hat from a picture. I have given him many commissions (8 or 9) based on sending a description or a picture and he has without fail delivered a hat matching what I wanted.

Northwest can offer more styles and types of hats; however, I much prefer Gannon’s fedoras. Northwest makes a great hat, but his felt finishes out thicker and firmer than I prefer. All personal preferences.
