Hi there,
I recently purchased a great little 1950’s make up purse /cigarette holder.

It’s got a very cute lipstick case on the side. Unfortunately I can’t find any actual lipsticks that will fit into it.

I realize that cosmetic sizes have changed since mid century, but does anyone have any advice as to where to find actual lipsticks that might fit in vintage cases?

I’ve looked on EBay for lipsticks from the 1950’s but they all look to be about the size of the case lol.

Maybe someone knows a mini travel size from a particular brand?

I've tried this method and can report that it works beautifully. In fact, that's how Brittany (the blogger) and I became friends, interestingly enough. I wrote to her & we discovered that we both live in the St. Louis area. But I digress. (as usual)

There are some narrow lipsticks out there that fit into the older (pre-1950s) vintage tubes. I do have a bunch of old empty tubes that work with modern lipsticks, too. If you don't find a modern lipstick that fits your vintage tubes, then you can create a mold from aluminum foil & a pencil, melt your modern lipstick, pour it into the mold, and freeze it. I have not tried this, so I can't tell you whether it works. It's supposed to be done in a microwave & I don't own one of those.

Along similar lines, many years ago I posted a recipe I found (believe this or not) in a 1940 issue of Popular Mechanics for making pressed powder to refill vintage compacts. I'll have to look for this again & if I find it I'll post it.
