Didn't you guys see this thread:

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=17713

That Adam Doodle was made in a similar fashion and the
Borsalino from 1929 on the cover I reproduce there is also
made that way. There were a lot of them in the old days.

I guess that fedora in the picture Marc posted could be a single
piece of felt with stitching, instead of a number of pieces as above.
But it's a similar look.

Very true Steven, Borsalino made this type of hat in 1929. It was popularand I wish I had one.

That is a terrific hat

to each his own, but I like that hat a lot. It looks like that would have taken a lot of work to do.

I'd like to get something straight in my head. Did the hat have contrast stitching? Or is the appearance of darkness just to highlight the stitches on the picture?

Marc, i don't recall and can't be bothered checking through my files. Was there any text attending the ad which might explain?

There is no text whatsoever.

I have a hunch that the "stitching" isn't stitching at all. It seems to be an embossed design that's been stamped into the felt to resemble lines of stitching. Sort of like the tear-off lines on coupons: - - - - -.

Marc , it was definately stitching done all around the hat . When I was at the Borsalino museum a few months ago , I saw a hat like that in the collection.I would have paid $500 for a Borsalino hat like that. It was a pearl grey hat with black stitching and it was beautiful !

I am looking at a photo of this type of hat made by Borsalino in 1929, It is Orange with a square pattern yellow stitching and has a band of two, two colored cords.

Dinerman, that is the photo. It is a great looking hat. BK I assumed that all the hats in this book were made by Borsalino.

Interesting thread.

What is the title of the book regarding Borsalino hats that is referred to in this thread?

I like the hat that initiated this thread.
