In this Jubilee Year, as we prepare to Celebrate 60 years since the Coronation of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip (Duke of Edinburgh), on offer are two pristine and beautiful Chalkware Busts of the 'young' Royal Couple in 1953! (Coronation Year).

The young Elizabeth and her Consort, Philip, had a number of personal sittings for the reknowned 20th Century Scottish Artist and Sculptor, George Henry ("Harry") Paulin (1888-1962). The result are the two ivory coloured Parian Busts you see before you here.

Measuring 7 1/2 inches by 4 1/4 inches, these 60-year-old commemorative pieces are in 'mint' condition with the Sculptor's initials carved into the back of each.
They come in their 'original' cardboard boxes (again, very rare that these survive).

They would look lovely sitting on a desk or a mantle piece.

What a memorable year of all years to own such a piece of British Royal history.

PM (Personal Message) me please if you'd like them.
Price * NOW ON EBAY* (they stay together as a 'couple') plus 'actual' Postage.

Very cool, and decent likenesses. I remember the coronation VIVIDLY. We had a 17 inch Philco in 1953, and the TV and magazines were FULL of coronation stuff. Life magazine had color pictorials of the crown jewels, which utterly blew my mind. It was the first coronation of a British monarch ever filmed, and they flew they films (no tapes, no live satellite feeds) directly to New York. There were hours and hours of coverage. The impression it made on my 6 year old mind is hard to describe. It's where my awareness of my English heritage started.
We should start a Queen Elizabeth's Coronation thread.

Thanks Dan, these items are just beautiful and really capture the likeness of the 'young couple' in 1953. Because of the Jubilee Year, there's a lot of interest in Commemorative collectibles, and will bring back many memories to those that remember 'that year.'

My history teacher opened the door for Elizabeth when he was a boy scout in Australia. Told us that just yesterday.

That's 'Great.' Maybe it would be worth telling your History Teacher about these lovely busts that would look fan-tas-tic on his desk bringing all those marvellous memories streaming back :)

oh, i just love them PADDY, thanks for posting! My Mother told me the story of the coronation many, many times. She did not have a television set then but listened to it on the radio on our little remote island in Newfoundland. She loved the Queen dearly and taught me to sing "God Save the Queen" before I even knew the alphabet. And she was able to describe to me in detail the event and what Elizabeth wore..from a radio broadcast she heard 13 years before i was even born. but she instilled that love into me as well. I agree with dhermann1..i think we need a Queen Elizabeth's Coronation thread..i would love to see any other Commemorative goodies loungers may have!

The quality & condition of these is amazing, it really is. The fact that they commissioned a top rate sculptor in the early 50's 'prior to the Royal Wedding' and got the young Royal couple to 'sit in person' for these works is just tremendous.

A real piece of history. I have 'never' come across an original 'pairing' like the ones I have here. Plus having the actual 'named' boxes (and in great condition too, is just such a bonus).

The (Royal Academy) Scottish sculptor as a young man was an Officer in the Great War and later produced sculptures to adorn many of the Great War (WWI) memorials across France/Belgium and GB. He has signed both of these fine pieces.

'IF...' You collect/enjoy, vintage items associated with the British Royal Family, and with 'this year' being 'JUBILEE YEAR,' well...it doesn't come much better than these two delightful pieces of QEII and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Surprised you didn't get a buyer on here. Have you tried linking the eBay auction to the British Monarchist League on Facebook? They're quite a.....devoted.... bunch over there, might be a good target market?

Tried it Edward - they kept removing it :( but a good idea! :)

On TFL there's really neither the interest nor the knowledge base for
these historical and collectible British items. So sadly I've given first dibbs here and now gone public.

Surprises me... admittedly not circles I tend to move in (though one of their current chairs and a few of their members are fellow Sheridanites, as it turns out), but yes, that does seem odd. Hopefully you'll do well on eBay - over there you're always at the mercy of somebody searching for what you have to offer, but given the timing, that hopefully won't be a problem. Just don't list 'em as "God Save The Queen" or all you'll get viewing are old Sex Pistols fans. ;)
