By the way, many men find these names for colors very confusing. A lot of us prefer to hear terms like "brownish green" or "reddish purple".

An aubergine is an eggplant, and Chartreuse is an herbal liquor, I believe. A lot of us women would prefer straight forward colour names too! I used to work for a clothing designer and part of my job was coming up with those silly colour names. Come to think of it, I think I remember an aubergine in the line at some point.

The name for the color makes the item sound nicer. When browsing a catalog, I'd much prefer, "all cotton aubergine skirt ....." over "all cotton reddish-brown skirt" lol Reddish-brown doesn't have that "ring" to it.

What I don't like is when it says, colors listed but, there is not picture of the color so you're left sitting there wondering, "What color is aubergine?" or, "I wonder if it's a light or a dark aubergine to which they are referring".

Yes, Exactly If there is a picture, they can call it any old thing they like.
