So for the straight zip, I have the stock Hercules version and the Highwayman custom version. The stock Hercules version has the model number RCL-10013. The Highwayman custom version model number is RCL-10080.
The Santa Clara custom version has the model number RCL-10084 from what I can see from Instagram.
I don't know what the model numbers are on the jackets I posted, they were custom ordered by Rainbow Country's Chinese retailers.
My best guess is that they are essentially the same in fit but may carry different size tag and different pockets/panels/stitching types, and that will have different model numbers.
My Highwayman is tag size 42 but is exactly same as the size 44 stock Hercules, both ordered by Japanese retailers, Americaya and Real Moon, respectively.

I think its cool that individual retailers can custom order their own thing, just slightly different from others. Of course the stock Hercules version seems to be the most popular. I am looking for my own "santa clara" version... To be continued...

The Santa Clara is such a beauty. Especially the limited edition one which looks like it has a shorter body than what RC usually makes and that gloriously grainy buffalo hide. Wish I had jumped on it sooner.

@Nykwil if you ever decide to let it go, please hit me up. ;)

Hi guys, hope it's okay for me to dig up this old thread.
I am looking around to buy the RC Hercules from Japan but sort of struggling to understand how they measure their garments as they all seem to be doing their own thing.
I reached out to McFly, Barnstormer, Avenue and Realmoon. Only McFly and Avenue came back to me with the measurements confirmation and how they measure it.

For reference, I am 170lbs(76-77kg), 175cm tall. Chest size about 41 inches depending the time of the day.

Question 1: Both McFly and Avenue told me size 40 would be quite small for me(given my weight and height), do you guys ever take the shops advice or just go off your own jacket's measurements?

Question 2: For people that has ordered from Barnstormer's website. How accurate are their measurements?
I scrolled past one of the post here that said their measurement is quite off - about 3 cm off. I am looking at their size 38 and it's quite close to perfect to me. However given the comment I am a bit reluctant to go ahead with them. The shop is not super responsive either.....

If helpful, I'm about 173 cm tall, 40 inch chest... I have two Rainbow Country jackets: a single rider in 42 and a speedster in a 40.

The 40 is a trim fit, great with a t-shirt underneath, while the single rider has a bit of room to layer.

If I had to guess... you'd probably be looking for a 42 in a Hercules...(?)

It's depends on how you want the jacket to fit, do you plan on layering up with it or just rock a T-shirt? I would go after measurements from a jacket you know you like the fit of and don't rely on the seller tbh.

I own a size 40 of the older smaller pattern(p2p:54cm, shoulders: 46cm) and I'm around 80kg/183cm/102cm/40"chest and it fits me tight(I do not layer in my Herc) but I'm able to close it without problems, so I would think the 38 or 40 would fit you great depending on what fit you're after :) (56,5p2p, 48,5shoulders new one in 40).

Hope this helps a bit :)

Cheers

I have a 39 inch chest and wear a 38 in the Highwayman and the Hercules but the Highwayman is a slightly looser fit. I could layer a very thin sweater with the highwayman but it would be pretty snug.

The Herc size 42 is 21.75" (55cm) P2P in half, 44" (110cm) around, 18.75" (48cm) shoulder. At 175cm/170lbs, you'll be better off with the 42. 40 will be super tight fit for you. 42 will be more wearable. Size 42 also has a curve in at the waist so it won't look boxy.

I’m thinking to just wear a t shirt for this one. I’ve got a layer jacket and it’s quite roomy at 57cm, 22.4inch chest and 48cm, 19 inch shoulder.
Living in Australia, I think best practice is to wear a Uniqlo heat tech, long sleeve and a jacket.
New hercs are about 54cm chest if they measure P2P like how we measure here on the forum.
Some seller(Barnstormer) told me they measure their shoulder width from the inside so I really wanted to check how they measure before I buy.

Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback! Part of my concern about this is how they measure as well. It seems like their way of measure is all over the shop. Unless I get a better understanding on how they measure the number doesn’t tell me much…. Kind of suck because the measurement varies a lot!

For reference I’m 5’9” 175 pounds with a 40.5” chest

This is a fresh out the box current production Hercules in Seal Brown on me

It felt like the right fit for me. Your chest is 0.5” bigger. If it helps I’m wearing a warm undershirt and a Pendleton wool flannel. So maybe would be a t shirt only fit for you? Not sure

This is what I got measuring the 40 and 42:

40
Chest 21.5
Shoulder 18
Back 25.25
Sleeve 24.25

42
Chest 22.5
Shoulder 19
Back 25.5
Sleeve 25

Obviously methods differ even when aiming for the same standard and getting a brand new jacket to cooperate when it’s not broken in and the seams haven’t set etc ain’t the easiest.

I posted this as a reel if you’d like to see it in motion

Thanks mate. That's a great fit.
You really make me think if I need the seal brown or should I stick to the black.

In most cases I’ll just wear a heat tech and long sleeve. So slightly thinner than what you are wearing or perhaps the same.

The measurement looks perfect. I reached out to Mushman as well and the bloke that spoke to me has similar dimension as us and wearing a size 40.
Only difference is the shoulder is 18.5 inch and others are almost identical
