Raiders of the lost Ark crown height query.

The height of the crown of the 'Raiders of the lost Ark' fedora is stated as being 5 1/2 inches tall.........could anyone tell me if this is measured at the front of the crown or at the higher sides. I've shaped a crown with 4 1/2 ins. at the front (5 1/2 inch. sides & 4 inch back) & it just lacks the wow factor of the afore mentioned hat so I thought this would be the best place to ask.

The 5 1/2 inchese mentioned is the open crown measurement.

Yup, should be 4 1/2" in front, 4" in back. The 5 1/2 does indeed refer to the open crown measurements.

There are a couple of threads here on Indy style hats, but if you want to go all-out and get it just right, you could sign up at COW (Club Obi Wan) and there is a very useful sticky thread in the hat forum there that gives good insight on the crease. I've personally spent quite a bit of time there to produce what I think of as a good Raiders hat, but I spend a great deal more here because I wear other styles more regularly.
