R.E.M. Calls it Quits

I'm posting this thread here because I don't want to anger all the Paul Whiteman fans.

R.E.M., a group that meant quite a lot to teenaged me from 1985-1990 has decided to call it a day after thirty-one years.

I jumped ship on the band after "Losing My Religion" became a hit because they just weren't the same band to me anymore, but I still like their work with the IRS label, especially their first three albums: Murmur, Reckoning, and especially Fables of the Reconstruction.

I have to say, I did enjoy their music.

Not sure why, but I have always felt sort of sad when any groups decide to toss in the towel, so to speak. But it does come to it, and I have always wondered about some bands that are still going strong, like the Stones, and for some reason I just cannot see them hanging on much longer. If they do, they will be in chairs getting wheeled onto stage.

R.E.M., U2, The Stones, and Pearl Jam are the last great Rock groups on Earth, it seems. Is that entire form of music dead, or what? Music is all Rap and "American Idol" type stuff now.

I still love R.E.M's first three albums and would put them up against the best of anything done in the Rock Era. Timeless.

I have to agree with you for the most part. I do also think that era was the best for all rock music, and as time goes on, it will just have that much more appeal to me.
