Those of you who have Akubra hats with factory installed eyelets, do they also go through the liners? Or do the liners cover them? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I need to know before I order a new Coober Pedy. I have a reason for asking...

Very interesting, thank you. Isn't it odd that they are there for ventilation but venting isn't likely to be very effective what the liner blocking the hole.

My reason for asking is that I bought a used Cattleman on Ebay for hardly any money. But there's no liner. I pulled a liner out of Fed IV and put it into the Cattleman, but...the vents are blocked.

I'm planning a great road trip this summer to Four Corners, Bryce Canyon, Mesa Verde, etc and I want an Akubra with working eyelets. But if they come from the factory with the liner covering them up, I might as well just take my Ebay Cattleman.

Hence this odd question

I have several Akubras with eyelets and liners, including an Akubra Territory.

The eyelets go through the liners on all three of the hats, the Blue Mountains, Coober Pedy, and Territory.
In fact, the outside rims of the metal eyelets inside of the hats sit on top of the liners.

Point of information.
The American version Akubra Territory is sold with a liner, while the Australian version of the same Akubra Territory is sold without a liner.

On my Bushman the eyelets did not go thru the liner.

The Akubra Bushman does not have ventilation eyelets.
Those are "hooks" (as Akubra specifically identifies them) for a chinstrap that are located at the bottom of the crown of the hat, in back of the sweatband, as Monavillecowboy just said, in the post just before yours.

You are right. My mistake. A long day today!

An easy "mistake" to make. Most anyone would call them "eyelets", as that is, essentially what they are, except Akubra, which insists that they are chinstrap or stampede string "hooks", although, to tell the truth, they are extraordinarily difficult to attach an Akubra chinstrap or stampede string to, requiring their metal edges to be pried up at their difficult to reach location in order to get a leather Akubra chinstrap or stampede string "hooked" unto them. I spent such an extended and exasperating period of time attaching a chinstrap to an Akubra Bushman and a stampede string to an Akubra Territory that I am now never removing them.

My David Morgan version of the Akubra Territory sports 2 large ventilation holes per side together with a smaller chinstrap eyelet. The vent holes go all the way through the liner, whereas the hollow chinstrap eyelets are covered by the liner as well as by the sweatband. As noted above the chinstrap eyelets seem to resist all attempts to secure the chinstrap to them, I wound up using stainless steel cotter pins.

I absolutely swear by my Territory for use as my "rain hat". Its 4" brim really keeps the water away from my face & esp. away from my eyeglasses, while the chinstrap holds the sucker down in the accompanying wind if I chose to make use thereof. A great sun hat too!

Might your Akubra Territory possibly be an originally unlined Australian version that a liner was later put into?
It looks like a factory install. The sweatband in it is embossed with "Made expressly for the Outback Trading Co PA" so perhaps it was provided to a meet a company spec?
