Do those of you who have tried on, or wear a vintage Adam hat(s) find that they are true to size, or do they run large/small? I am interested in a 50's Adam up for auction, but it is a 6 3/4, and I normally wear a 6 7/8.
Look, the thing with any vintage hat is that its inherently a gamble. What a given hat's size was back in the day could have been affected and changed how that hat fits today. Which is to say that if anything, the hat got smaller.
Or it could have been stretched to a larger size...... one of the first things learned when buying vintage is you can't trust a size label. What generally works for me is this: Take a hat that fits you and measure the inside of the sweatband where it contacts your head from front to back and side to side. Use a straightedge not a tape. Ask the seller of the hat your interested in to take the same measurement. Then hope they're competent enough to do it right.
I always assume all vintage hats have tightened up some & are smaller than stated size.
They do have a "memory" & are coaxed back to the original size very willingly.

+1 I've found they will fit or be slightly small. 3 of the vintage hats I've bought have been so much smaller I didn't feel I could stretch them enough safely and will eventually sell them noting the shrinkage, of course.
