QUESTION ABOUT 3:10 TO YUMA BEN WADE HAT

Greetings. I know my question isn't about a fedora, but I'm hoping someone can help. I recently had a 3:10 To Yuma Russell Crowe hat made for me. I felt that the overall dimensions of the hat were not correct. The hat makers were nice enough to offer to re-make the hat for me. They are asking me for the measurements for the new hat. Does any know the brim and crown measurements of the actual movie hat?

Below is a pic of my hat and the movie hat. Am I the only one that sees that my hat is off?

Thanks.

Based on the pics they are very close. Your hat might be a touch taller crown?

Thanks for the input. So you're saying that my hat looks the same as the movie version? The brim doesn't look too wide? I think the size and shape of my face make the brim look wide. One of the reasons I got this hat was for its distinctive look. My version looks like a traditional cowboy hat. Am I seeing things? :(

I think they are very close, but I agree with you. Your face is a bit narrower, causing the brim width and crown height to give a different effect. Perhaps 1/4" off the brim would help, and maybe push the crown down 1/4" - 1/2". Also, Crowe's hat seems to have a bit of a pinch in the front (likely from handling). But that might just be the light.

However, my advice would be to wear it and get used to how you look in it. I think in time it will look more natural to you. I think it looks fine on you and is a good representation of the movie hat.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

Your brim is wider & because of that the curl appears to be more open. The hatband appears to be wider & thicker than the original.

You might send a PM to Lounger named Moviehats. He might know the specs on the original & the hatter who made it. You might also check the Movie Hats thread. I remember discussing the hat worn by the character Charlie Prince. I don't recall if this hat was discussed or not.

What I see is that the original appears to be more based on a Bowler... your hat, not so much so.

I also see a sharp crease up the front of the crown of the original hat... that your hat is lacking.

Now, having said that, I am often told that I have no idea what I am talking about...

But that's my take.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to add to it in case anyone searches and finds it while looking for this hat (like I did).

Attached please find a hat I had made for me by The Hat Store in Houston, Texas https://www.thehatstore.com/ (Sorry the photos are tilted. I tried to rotate them but couldn't.)

Dimensions are: Crown - 3 3/4" Brim - 3" It's a basic telescope crown but with a slight crease at the front. The rattlesnake hatband I had them take off my previous 3:10 to Yuma hat which was made for me by Knudsen's. I think the Hat Store's version looks terrific! Pictures attached.

Regarding the Knudsen's hat, I had the same issues as the original poster of this thread: It was too tall, too wide, and just didn't look like the hat Russell Crowe wore. It shrank pretty quickly and when I contacted Knudsen's about re-sizing it they did everything they could to discourage me from sending it back in. I was not impressed by the customer service.

The Hat Store can make any hat you want and they are great to work with. Again, I think the Ben Wade 3:10 to Yuma hat they made for me looks fantastic! Let me know what you think!

Is there a part number on this hat or some way to identify it to The Hat Store? What was the price of this, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks!

Just discovered this maker, Agnoulita. If you need a custom western or hybrid for a good price, give him look-see. I can't believe the hats he's putting out for the price. He also seems to be improving more and more in recent years. My opinion.
Hufvud is a really good one too. Willing to go back and forth a bit easier I noticed. I'm sure there are numerous custom makers. Just remind yourself that you will never look the same in a hat because your face is different than the actor or whomever with which you are comparing hats.

Hey Tie Toter, there's no part number but they used black Rodeo Bum 100X pure beaver hat as the base of it. They cut it and shaped it right there in the store while I waited and they will let you try it on and make changes as they go. They want you to be totally pleased with your hat. I've had the Hat Store make 3 cowboy hats for me now and they've done a great job on all of them. I highly recommend them!
