This hat looks like it was never worn. I finally found a brown dress fedora (other than my Indy Akubra). Any idea on the dates? I am guessing late 40's. The only problem is that it is just a tad bit too small. I think that with a haircut it should be fine. If not, is it recommended that I stretch it? Oh and can this be fixed?

It is not torn all of the way through, it just seems like the leather is cracking.

Nice hat. I have one just like it. The brim binding is interesting-
it's shorter/narrower on one side than it is on the other. A fine, dense felt.

There is a lot of information on this site about stretching
hats. I suggest you read it before stretching the hat.
In particular, there are different kinds of hat stretchers
and different techniques for stretching. Steam is
helpful. Lexol on the leather sweat band is a good idea.
Be very careful stretching that hat, since there is
already damage to the leather sweat band.

A little leather conditioner?

The leather may be dried out, so you might try some leather conditioner or cream on it to bring it back. If it is too dry and crumbles, you can have it replaced. If so, then you might have a hatter resize it and do the sweat band work at the same time.

Try not to get the conditioner on the liner or felt.

I was thinking about having it replaced but I would feel really bad getting rid of the original sweatband. That Royal Stetson logo is just too pretty.

Thanks for the thumbs up everyone.
