Pulling the trigger on another Aero...

I have had my FQHH LHB for a couple of years and I love the jacket. The more I wear it the bette it looks. One of the things that I really like about the LHB is the ability to dress it up or down. It is extremely versatile.

For several years I have been developing an interest in a Cafe style jacket and I am looking at Aero's Cafe Racer in mid-weight or in heavy HH. I'll probably stick with Brown or Vintage Brown. The question is which weight. Because of the cut this is prinarily going to be worn over single layer. I think the mid-weight would be the most practical but I am concerned that it will look "cheap" compared to the heavy. Suggestions and thoughts from those having experience with both leathers? Photos, anyone?

The mid weight HH from Aero will not look cheap. It will be fine jacket. If you aren't going to get it for riding, go with the mid weight. If you will be riding with it, then consider the heavyweight HH.

Why not try some of their goat? The sample I was sent was very nice, tough yet supple. That'd be my first choice for a tighter fitting jacket such as a cafe racer.

Do you intend to ride a motorcycle with the jacket?

I had a heavy FQHH Aero Cafe Racer and sold it after half a year of riding my Moto Guzzi Cafe Racer. It was to unconfortable.

But as I really love the Style I now have bought a used one made from a lighter HH. The look is nearly the same and it fits like a glove. The heavy one was more like a suit of armour.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the look and feel of the heavy FQHH and know how much work you have to put in it to get it worn in. I own a really heavy Highwayman and use it for long walks with the dogs . But with the trim-fit style the heavy HH did not worked for me.

My Cafe Racer in mid-weight HH doesn't look cheap as the leather still is stiff enough not to show those small tissue like folds you often see on those cheap looking but extremely high priced jackets from trendy stores.
What you don't see on my mid-weight HH are those small creaky wrinkles I have on the heavy HH Highwayman.

As most of those cheaply produced jackets you see today are given a vintage look I personally wouldn't recommend a vintage colour but put a lot of work into the jacket and get the vintage patina myself.

Hi Doublegun - the jerky seal brown is a great hide - well not as heavy as heavy fqhh but still a quite heavy hide - it got a soft feeling after a short wearing time.
The grain comes out after a very short time and looks amazing - the reddish undertone come through and develops a lot of character ---

Its my "summer" leather jacket with burgundy satin lining - its not as warm as heavy fq horse - I can wear this jacket only in warmer seasons - means from 15 to 20 degree celsius - also like to wear this soft hide in autumn but need to add a light sweater! Its not a warm leather but very very nice!!

Absolutely agreed with windward... handled 30+ Aero's (all type of leather) and Jerky Seal Midweight HH is one of most usable on several occasions... practical wearable in all weathers depending from lining ...

Dang, now I'm pondering if I should change my 50's HBD to this hide. That looks nice!!!
