Prom Night?

Did you attend your High School Prom? If so, what did you drive? When, where, and what year.

I was graduated in June of 1964. (Cleveland, Ohio John Marshall High School) Okay, I drove a 1960 Ford Sunliner Convertible. The weekend after Prom, we all went to Cedar Point on Lake Erie for the weekend.

Yes!
Graduation and Prom: 1966 - Maplewood HS - Nashville, TN
Car: 1965 Impala two-door fastback, 327/300 HP, 4-speed, shiny black
Date: Beautiful and Smart Marilyn, looked like Mary Ann from "Gilligan's Island", only better

Shortly after, we went our own ways to two different colleges... So it goes...
Many years later whenever I watch "Gilligan" I think of her...

Burnaby North Senior Secondary, June 1967. Drove my 1956 Meteor tri toned two door coupe. 289/4 barrel. We had to pick a name out of a hat for our date so no one was left out. I went with Jody Gibson who would not speak to me as I broke up with her in sophomore year. The rules were you had to dance with your date twice after that you were good to roam. My girlfriend Lena went with Henry (can't spell his last name). The big party was the after grad that we organized after the school event (held in our gym). We held the aftergrad at a downtown afterhours nightclub. Then we drove out to the lake to catch the sunrise and breakfast.
Never attended the actual cap and gown graduation ceremony as that would entail missing another night's work. Not sure I ever picked up my diploma. Lena and I lived together all through university, we travelled together afterwards. She wanted to travel more.....I felt pressure (self induced) to settle down with a job. The plan was to pick up after she returned from travel but one year slipped into two.....She ended up marrying and living in Denmark for a few years and then she returned home with her new family.
We picked up our friendship and she became good friends with my wife and the 4 of us were best friends for decades until they moved away. We still talk on the phone and visit each other once or twice a year.

My inner-city high school was too strapped for funds to have a prom in 1973. It was also the moment when "the sixties" had fully migrated to east coast high school consciousness, and traditions like the senior prom seemed hopelessly antiquated and absurd.

It was fine with me, I was a designated non-combatant, not yet dating, so it didn't matter. And honestly, I've never felt that I missed anything important...

Prom onboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California in June 1977. That was cool. Date was a green eyed, auburn haired beauty who (I think) seriously had not the slightest idea that she was running guys into ditches left and right. Car was an early 70s Datsun Station wagon that was a lot of fun. About a week later I was off to basic training.

Yes, for me it was just an excuse for a big party to celebrate the grind of 12 years of school being over and a half way good reason to book off work.
