Preppies were (and still are) known to wear their trouser legs especially short.

This side of the Atlantic, I learned as a child that this is typical of Americans in general, unless the high-waters come with white socks, which would point to a Swiss businessman.

maybe it's because i was in a college town when i lived in that kingdom, but all the young people who wore suits had trousers that showed sock when standing upright. And they wore kakhis that dragged on the ground. there seemed to be no intermediate option . . .

I always suspected that middle aged men got their pants tailored right, then let their gut push them down so that they rode way too low.

I like the high style of the '30s too well to be a really good Trad, I'm afraid. When dressed casually I tend to dress more Trad. When I move up to suits I prefer darts and more structure.

I am the same way. My trad clothing is almost all of the more informal variety. Plain front khakis, sack sportcoats, buttondown oxfords, penny loafers, etc. I don't care for sack suits, however, or tassel loafers, or double-soled Aldens, etc.

I love trad/ivy when everything is a bit rumpled and worn-out.

I don't like trousers that long myself, by the way. And I didn't learn that in school but from my father - not sure what period formed this wisdom originally.

I too agree that when I think preppy I think east coast. And some-one under 30 or so.

I don't see too many so-called preppies in my area, though they do exist around here.
