My trio of early to mid 30s Stetson westerns. 2 raw edge No. 1 qualities and a 5x Clear Beaver bound edge.

My pre 40’s Stetson family grew by 2 more Staple Western shapes.

No. 1 quality 7.5x5” bound edge (tan)
Real Nutria quality 7+x4” bound (black)

This 30s No1 Boss Of The Plains arrived today. Quite psyched as I've always loved these hats and have even considered having one made. Fits really well too! Hat's in nice shape save for sweat which is dry and wants to crack. I took a peek under sweat w/ a mirror long enough to clearly spy multi celled label but I didn't linger. I didn't realize brim on these guy's was so crazy stiff while crown more a western weight. Regardless, hat has a very nice hand.
Original owner, George Elmer Outland (1906-1981) pictured last, was a congressman for two terms 1943-1947.

Crown best I can gather is 4 5/8" and brim 3"
I suspect that before hat languished who knows where, sweat was probably in as nice of shape as the rest.

An unusual ribbon treatment under that braidy thing. Not sure i’ve seen a no-bow No.1 before.

3 ply ribbon was a finish used on this grade/style/period of No.1 Quality. I've owned a few - nice hats. This one was sold in the classifieds a few years back.

... this is the one I kept. One of the first old western hats I purchased. Thinking I look a little like Ed Harris in Westworld, with a few more wrinkles.
