Powder Room input

I think the general consensus is that having some separate categories will make searching for particular topics helpful. But I, like Rosie, would like to know if there would be a basic Powder Room and once you enter that, there would be categories for hair, for makeup, etc. It would be a bonus for me, especially when I'm looking for hair tips or foundation (underwear) tips and such. Scrolling through a lot of threads can take some time and with all the people on the PR now, a good topic can get rolled to the next page in the same day. How many people go to the next pages to read stuff? I rarely do, and I'm sure I've missed some good discussions.

Lady Day, let us know how things turn out. I enjoy re-decorating and re-doing the PR will be fun!

This is what I was thinking of too...I think it might also encourage people to actually use the search function if things were grouped in their respective areas, not just thrown together in one big heap. It would definitely make it easier to sift through all the topics that pop up! Whatever changes are in store, I'm sure it will be wonderful!

I would like more categories. Yes, there are existing forums for "Hats" and "Suits" but I don't really feel comfortable intruding into the men's atmoshphere there. If I wanted to start a thread of ladies' suits, I would do it in the "Powder Room" currently, not in the general "Suits" forum.

If the boys get seperate forums for suits and hats, I don't think it's unreasonable for the ladies to have one forum for clothing. I know we don't talk about specific articles of clothing enough to warrant seperate forums for each, but one for clothing and one for hair and makeup would be lovely.

So, the "Powder Room" would be the area for hair and makeup and the "Dressing Room" would be the one for clothing. Where would general discussion go, like "Show us what you made" or "How old are we?". We would almost need a third forum for general topics, unless we wanted to keep them in the "Powder Room" because that is where we are used to looking for them. The PW could continue to be the general catch-all.

That sounds like a great idea!
Anyway for those thread touching both clothing and makeup and hair the PR would still be a great place to post

to me it just sounds like a great way to stimulate more posting on specific topics, and a great way to be more and more specialised ! :D

A seperate dressing room and powder room would be lovely as it would be easier to find what you are looking for and how about a ladies circle for all the chit chat and crafty things? (sorry about the name but its the best I could come up with lol ) I'll be happy whatever gets decided

I've been doing some more thinking about this. I still like the idea of expanding on The PR, but I want to make sure that if this does happen that we ladies will still be thought of as part of The Lounge. It's my understanding that some of the fellas might see this as an act of us breaking away. However, the sections outside of the PR, like suits and hats and jackets have almost always been exclusively men. This is not to say that the ladies can't post in these areas. We know we are more than welcome. But the lounge was kind of dominated by the guys for so long, that the gals might have felt that there topics should be discussed in a separate area. Besides, if we ladies starting talking about all of our hats, and jackets, and suits, and all the other things in the already existing rooms, then those rooms would just get packed full of information, and they would end up in the same position as the PR.

I just want to make sure that the guys realize that we don't want to alienate ourselves from them. That we still enjoy the many areas of the lounge where discussions amongst all of us occur, like the OB and News. We are growing, and with growth comes change, but I want to make sure that this change does turn out for the better.:)

I see...

Well from what Im gathering, y'all would like a sub catogory(s) in the PR. Hmmm...

We would like to see you ladies more intergrated into rest of the lounge. Making a lot of the forums more mixed company. I completly understand the PR as a base, but the rest of the lounge has some great info in it, and I woud personally like you ladies show up there from time to time.
It can get lonely....

Keep the suggestions coming!

I think a lot of ladies - myself included at times - could be a bit intimidated by posting outside of the PR. I do see an awful lot of posts in the PR that would be better suited in the main sections of the Lounge, but I think some of us might be unsure of where we should post things.

I think we need to break out of the comfort of our satin slippers and get dolled up and venture out into the other sections of the lounge!

lady day, I am really agreeable to whatever happens. As long as we can all be together !

I agree completely to the idea of trying to encourage some ladies to visit other places in the FR, I do often and there really is a lot of great, cool stuff going on.In fact, i often see similar threads here in the PR and elsewhere, so sometimes i end up posting the same thing twice.

I have great faith in you fabulous bartenders and will always be here, no matter what you do!:cheers1:

Well I am litterlly looking at 5 threads that could easily be filtered into the rest of the lounge for general comments:

Vintage Turning Point

How Old Is Everyone

Most Precious Vintage Item

Shopping In Brighton UK

Thrifting Tips

These threads really dont have anything to do with general PR topics. They are still cool, but this is what the OB, and other parts of the lounge are for. BUt then the need to keep it a ladies social room is the point as well. :eusa_doh:

This is the frustration.

I agree with some of those above threads, LD, except for the "Age" thread. The one in the general forums is huge by now, and if I am interested in the age of the ladies that I associate with more, I don't want to have to wade through the entire thing.

I have other thoughts, but I will PM them instead :)

I post outside the PR all the time. The OB and News sections have some great threads, and the guys like it when a lady comes in and complements one of them on a suit or hat they posted.
I've never felt intimidated, when I first joined the men were just as welcoming as the ladies. We have a wonderful group of fellas here, take some time to get to know them, you might discover a whole new side of the Lounge that you never new existed.:)

I'm one of the newbies myself, but would like to weigh in. I like the idea of subcategories w/in the PR (that's actually how I set up my FL bookmarks). That would sure help researching a specific question within a general topic such as makeup (for example I was trying to find if there had been a prior thread or discussion w/in a thread on makeup tips for b&w photography. I got 100s of posts w/words "makeup" and "black and white" or "b&w" but gave up trying to sort thru all to find what I wanted - as you all know from that age thread today, I'm not getting any younger!:) ). I do see Lady Day's point about more general topics. There are a lot of "help me date this..." posts here, as well as outside the PR. I would not likely join in those discussions if not in the PR however. The ladies in the PR have all been so nice, and so helpful; I don't feel very comfortable posting outside the PR. I've tried, but I have to say honestly, I feel pretty unwelcome (I assume, tho, that this is because I'm new and have never met any other FL'ers, not so because ladies are not welcome in the Lounge, as clearly, they are).

I too am a newbie and I love it in the PR but also enjoy the other parts of the FL as well. There are a lot of wonderful topics in the other categories and you who are shy should just lurk for a bit and see what the other sections have to offer. I can understand why everyone is most comfortable here and I feel the same way, but all of the guys I have interacted with in the other sections have been nice and very helpful when I have questions. :eusa_clap

I guess I'm going to go against the flow.... but I don't like the subcategories. :(

I'll eventually get used to it.... but now I have to remember where threads were that I want to read! [huh]

I think it would be simple.

Beauty is for the body, hair, and face.

The PR is for clothes, shoes, and the like.

Easy peasie.
