Made in top heavyweight leather, I'd say horsehide.
It looks like a mid 70s Schott, I don't think Schott was producing horsehide jackets back then.

I can send you this spare label if you want. It came from a mid 80s jacket though, slightly younger than your jacket.

Does the Schott have the white tag in pocket? Or leather care tag?
Yes, in the coin pocket!

Thank you, Marc! You are very kind:) In fact, I was looking for the proper label for this jacket, but I got lost 'cause I realized there were three types that could fit on it judging by the period: the one with the bull and "by Schott Bross"; the cactus & bull label; and the "perfecto" in the white frame label.
And yeah... You must be right, this may be made in steerhide instead of horsehide. But what a steer!

I agree with Marc, yours is 70’s. Not sure if it’s mid 70’s or later 70’s. It’s definitely steerhide though, Schott wasn’t making horsehide jackets at that time.

There are so many little variances between jackets, even ones with the same label.

Here are two of my 618s (now know as 613) from the 70s.

Mid 70’s. Size 36.

IMG_4320.jpeg

The bull & cactus label is earlier, late 60’s and into the early 70’s. They fit much different as well.

This would have been the label in your jacket. Bull label, Schott Bros (no N.Y.C.) It’s just a matter if there was a leather care tag next to it like this size 36, which I associate with mid 70s jackets, or if the leather care tag was in the body, which I associate with later 70’s jackets.

Vinyl on inside bottom hem. Leather in sleeve gussets.

Here’s my later 70’s size 38.

There are even more differences and variances in 80’s jackets!

Does yours have a leather care tag on the inside of the body or vinyl on either the inside bottom hem or sleeve gussets?

Awesome, thank you @jeo! Valuable info here. These are beautiful jackets!
Mine is a size 36 too. I didn't find the leather care tag in any place of the jacket, only the size tag inside the coin pocket.
No vinyl in the gussets, just the same leather as the rest of the sleeve, on whose zippers can be read "USA W-2". There's a kind of fabric, a bit ripped, inside the whole bottom hem: but no vinyl. Both epaulettes show marks of the former stars.
Something I've seen different is the puller on pockets, on my jacket these are round rings, so no round puller with the "v" inside.
One detail that got my attention in my jacket was the shape of the coin pocket flap, shorter by one side. This is the kind of things I love in the vintage stuff, revealing it was manufactured.

Interesting.

My early 60s “ribbon” label and my two late 60s “cactus” labels all have vinyl on both those spots along with what you saw on my two 70s ones. I’m can only assume they were cutting cost by doing that.

I also currently have two from the 80s and one that I used to own and none of them had any vinyl.

You typically don’t see the “v” inside the “O” ring pulls. It’s not necessarily rare, but definitely not super common. Don’t know the significance of the “v”.

Yup, the snap button on the coin pocket is also off center. Inconsistencies like that are very common on vintage jackets, not just Schotts.

Thats one serious collection!

I still remember your statement that you were content with your collection and that you really didn't feel the need for any more jackets (you bought that Swedish dispatch rider jacket two hours later lol). That was summer 2022? I think half of the jackets as shown above were acquired since lol.

Haha yes I still think of that quite often actually! Your comment made me do a count - half acquired since 2022 was a very good estimate.
Seeing your whole collection and also handling Vanson jackets at @mendelboaz place gave me some new ideas on stuff I wanted to have.
The collection has certainly grown since then

Great post showing a well curated collection of various styles in a well organized manner!

I've been kicking around doing one of these but then I would know exactly just how many jackets I actually have. A hard number is a bit more sobering than the ambiguous "more than I really need."

I too am bored with nothing better to do since it's Easter and everything is closed so to actually contribute something (useful, God forbid), I'll post my 17346th jacket collection which is 90% jacket free & 100% TFL incompatible.
I'm semi-joking as these are jackets too and they're nice, so without further delay, let's start off with...

Ajmone, which isn't new as I've posted about it already & I still love as much as the day I bought it. Classy, comfortable, useful, beautiful. Perfect for every occasion & works so well with everything, without being pretentious or loud.

Dog's choice, too, as you can see. Only jacket he wanted to sit next whilst I was doing this photo shoot.

Next up, this unbranded jacket I bought locally. It was so cheap that I only purchased it to do a test run with this style but it turned out better than most really expensive ones that I've handled since.

It was in a horrible state, too but luckily, for once did the leather conditioner had a profound effect on it & I've gotten those silver buttons specifically for it.

All I know about it is that it is made in Italy from heavy calf. All in all, a very lovely jacket & you know how easily these can slip into ridiculous nonsense, especially these cheap(er) ones. Though honestly, I'm not sure if it's ever been cheap..?

Either way, this has been my 1st choice for the most of the winter, how good it does what it's supposed to do.

Speaking of ridiculous nonsense... This is one of those jacket that instantly had me throwing money at the screen, the moment I saw it. Thankfully, it wasn't a lot of money since for all those obscenely expensive designer clothes, there are all the beautiful Vinted people who just apparently sometimes want to practically gift things away. Thanks, French seller, whoever you are.

Obviously a designer piece - Thankfully, a tame one - this thing is all about the material & fit: Made from very stiff, mid-weight, matte horsehide that feels more like heavy fabric (or paper, perhaps) than leather, this is the best fitting jacket I ever, ever had. Zero drape. Just pure angular shape. It makes me look good. It makes me feel good.

What else... Yeah, I know & I don't particularly care for the stapled back thing as well as it's somewhat childish - Although, it actually acts like an articulated hinge so the jacket perfectly shapes over your back - but the rest of it more than makes up for it.

Oh, and in case you're wondering what's that teeth-y metal thing, that's a part of the magnet closure mechanism it's got there. Is that cool or what?

You know what the first rule in government spending is? Why buy one when you can have two at twice the price? Only, this one can be kept secret.

...or it was supposed to be because how can I possibly justify buying two of the same things?

Different kind of leather aside, essentially, this is the exact same jacket as the one above, sans the more convenient closure button.

And when it comes to leather - Sheepskin in this case - I have to say though, we've... Well, I have always been quick to dismiss lamb & sheepskin as trash but seeing the kind this jacket is made of, seriously makes me doubt reality.

This leather is stunningly beautiful! Hefty yet mega-soft with a heavily-pronounced grain... Even the deep, near-invisible red undertone is out of this world.
Weight-wise, you can tell I'm sure this isn't a light-weight garment. I'd compare the leather thickness to those 80's Avirex A-2's which always had me wonder how come we don't see such heavy sheep leather no more.

Anyway, while technically the same, this jacket is also different enough that once worn, any similarity abruptly ends, which is why, while I paid 2x what I did for the horsehide one, I have NO REGRETS.

This one is a result of an anxiety and a lost battle with an episode of uncontrollable obsession. There was absolutely no justification buying it as it brings NOTHING to my wardrobe but I guess it's stupid things like this that we do, that make TFL alive.

Leather blazer made in Japan, by the Japanese designer Yasuyuki Ishii. Veg tanned calfskin. I love wearing it but no more than any of the others so I don't know... It's kind of got that rock-star feel so there's that.

Nevertheless, it's a 10/10 leather blazer that would've been my absolute favorite, was it my only one.
