A new, old Whippet arrived at my house today fresh from the bay. This one looks pretty good except for what looks like a couple of pin holes in the ribbon near the bow. Anybody have any thoughts on how to get those out? A good brushing will improve it quite a bit, I think.

It's black, kind of a rare color I'm told. And it's '50's I believe JtL said. Right, Jim?

NOS but could use a C & B to cure it of stacked storage-stiffness and smooth it out. 2-1/4"+brim 5-1/2" open crown.

I don't know if someone manipulated the image, but I've got both the Cervo ad you've posted and this one from Barbisio, which is clearly using the same images. I've seen this sort of thing in recent magazines, with the same stock photo being used as an ad for both a software and an insurance company, but you'd think that competing companies within the same industry would have been pretty quick to spot it.

Cervo Bantam and Barbisio

Cervo and Barbisio were not just competing firms. They both were located in a town called Sagliano Micca. Cervo for many years acted as a subcontractor for Barbisio. Probably, that is why there are two versions of the Bantam ad. (Although I have never actually seen a Barbisio Bantam.)

Thanks, SP and hatted. This is the first black one I've seen too. I gave it a good brushing after I took the pics, and that improved the looks of it quite a bit. I need to figure out what to do with those pin holes in the ribbon, but Mrs. BobC says she has a way to get them out.

Mr. P, if you haven't experienced Resistol's self conforming sweat, I can tell you that you are going to like it. I have one, and it makes the hat feel great on. I've been curious about how I'd look in a homberg. Yours looks fantastic on you and is making me want to try one.

I am glad, I did not win this exeptionally fine example of a very rare to find hat in such a great condition! I would not have dared to stretch it to my 7 3/8.
