I never complain about that. :)

Stetson Whippet Air-Light with Mode Edge. It is a sage green color felt depending on the light.

The felt is incredibly light and pliable. It takes no effort to shape this hat.

Here it is next to my moss green Whippet

A narrower ribbon and unreeded sweatband. I think this one is a bit older then the average Whippet.

Very Nice.

Outstanding, Feraud! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

What an absolutely gorgeous color -- a great lid. Even better, I think you've scored one of the original Whippets. Here is the 1940 Stetson ad introducing the Whippet: "light in weight with style retaining mode edge." Look familiar? ;)

Fantastic score -- Congrats!

Thanks. Hey that hat does look somewhat familiar.
I put the Stetson on a scale today and it weighed in at 3.4oz.

I posted this in the Ebay thread but I ...

am pleased with the hat and also want to find out if anyone knows anything about the house-brand maker BeaverBrook.

I just got my Dobbs Westward in the mail today. I was really looking forward to getting this and I did pay quite a bit more for it. It's just that it's my exact size and it is mint.

I was surprised that it is more yellow than I had presumed. I don't think it's due to the straw yellowing over the years but rather that this was the original color. Maybe I'm referencing it too much with a modern whiter panama.

It is a cuenca after all (still need to get an exact definition on that term).

The quality of the stitching and the sweat is outstanding. The lid is mint. But the box it came in is in bits....

Original Price marked on it was $7.50. Quite a bit for a straw.

The original owner (written on the box) was a Mr. "Robert M. Kilgore" of 600 N. Montgomery. I wonder where that is?

It's a 7 3/4 LO. Rarer than a hen's tooth (to quote a fellow Lounger...).

Love those thin ribbons, Phil does this hat fit you well? I know you were having a problem finding anything that would fit you correctly. It looks great!

For Mr. J. T. Marcus, per your request

Mr. Marcus, about two weeks ago I posted pictures of my new Akubra Stylemaster. I was wearing a shirt and tie that you complimented, and you requested to see the jacket I would wear with that shirt, tie and hat. The other day my wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. I took her to dinner and wore what you see below.

I am now looking for my next hat. I would like something with a slightly wider brim and higher crown than the Akubra. I am working my way up to asking Mr. Fawcett if he would mind creating one of his masterpieces to fit my noggin. I am guessing that no one around my part of the world has one of his creations, and they are truly beautiful things.

Thanks for your kind words.

Bob

Old Whippet and New Stetson Open Road

I just received two hats from OFAS, a green Whippet and a basically new Open Road.

I love the Whippet.

The Open Road, which figured I could wear in the rain, is like cardboard, nothing like the vintage models. It's got what I guess is a cattleman's bash -- I obviously am cheating in folding the brim down -- and it's sort of set in stone. Is water enough to rebash this thing?

Hi All,

I guess this is where you post new hats! :)

I just bought my first "nice" hat today. I went to Heimie's Haberdashery and tried on many, many summer hats. I'm not too familiar with "hat information" for lack of a better term, but I'll do my best to tell you as much as I can about my new hat.

I think it's a "Breakers-Nat" and the size is 7-1/8, regular. It fits like a glove. Which is weird, because in Resistol cowboy hats, I'm a 7-1/4 LO. However, my cowboy hats are always just a little too big. Oh, wait, there is the word "oval" on my hat so, I guess it is an oval. It fits much better than my western hat. Color: Natural.

Under the Heimie's tag, I believe I see the word "Barker." With some other numbers.

I will now attempt to attach some pictures. Not sure how they will turnout, I'm not too familiar with my photo software.

Nope, I keep getting upload of file failed. :(

I guess I must try tomorrow.

SlyGI it's easier if you have a image hosting site to link from like www.photobucket.com. When you get the photo uploaded there, in your post just click the little pic icon (yellow square with mountains in it) on the bar above your post. Copy the URL of the photo from your pic to the box it opens on here and viola =)

^You need to host your pictures on hosting site. Try Imageshack or Photobucket (they're free). Imageshack will automatically resize for you if you want. After you upload it you'll be supplied with various html code. Copy the one for forums and just paste it here.

Congrats on the hat.

The 4x OR that I bought on OFAS also was very stiff, but was able to rebash with a C-crown and front snap with some distilled water and steam. The steam really helped take out the side-pinches and apply a front pinch. Need to post some pics. Sorry. Good luck.

Holy Smokes, Phil -- that Whippet is beautiful! Looks great on you, too. Beautiful shade of green -- looks a lot like one of Feraud's green Whippets to me. Nicely done! :eusa_clap

Cheers,
