I’ve long admired Gary’s @The Shoe Custom V so happily grabbed this one, but suspect they don’t share much except a name. It’s an unusual hat—my first real heathered felt and very thick and soft and wooly, like a cross between a fedora and a blanket. It’s in very good condition and a handsome bluish gray felt. It took a lot of steam to get anything like a real crease in it and the brim definitely has a mind of its own. Seems like the kind of hat you’d put under the tree for dad along with a new pipe and some slippers—cozy and casual.

Congratulations on the find. I do recall you saying it was your favourite of my hats. It’s certainly up there for me, too. Probably first equal with my Borsalino Debrosan.
Not a lot in common between them, although the dimensions may be the same.. Mine’s a thin felt with a bound brim. Same liner, though yours is much cleaner. Either way, it looks great.

Here are some hats that came in over the last few weeks. Due to the sun not making an appearance recently I only had the chance to take pictures of them yesterday. In no particular order. First one.

Cervo Super Bantam welterweight in a grey colour called Bolzano. Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 10 cm at the center dent. The striking style with the two rows of pronounced stitching and the cross stitched ribbon reminds a bit of the gay prince styled hats. Which is what drew me to this hat. Very lightweight at only 87 grams. Odd that a hat can be both a bantam and welterweight at the same time!

Number two.

Borsalino qualità finissima fedora in grey (Amiata). Size 58 with the raw edge brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10 cm at the center dent. According to seller it belonged to a diplomat whose first name was Leon. She was very happy for it to get a second life. Great felt on this one as expected. Lightweight hat at just 90 grams. It's not my size, so feel free to pm me if you're interested.

Number three.

Stetson Excellent homburg in black in a style called "courier" on the label. Made under license in Germany, so manufactured by Mayser. Size 57 with the bound brim at 6cm and the crown at 11 cm. This is Mayser manufacturing at its finest and they apparently really wanted to make this licensing work. This hat is dated 23rd of march 1957, so in the early years of the license. An observation here is that in Germany the "Imperial" designation wasn't used as opposed to the English license where it was common. Maybe the association with the past made and the Austro Hungarian Empire and their own exiled Kaiser made them opt for another name.

Number four.

Borsalino Celesti in black nutria. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent, which are my preferred proportions for a hat. Fabulous hand to the felt and all the expected quality of a vintage Borsalino. Weighs 115 grams.

Number five.

Echter Borsalino Cocisca in a brown (so my family members tell me) colour called Ginestra (Italian for broom). Size 57 with the overwelt brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. Four extra rows of stitching next to the overwelt make this a very attractive brim treatment. Nice thin ribbon to finish it off. Weighs 105 grams.

Great hats Stefan, the Cervo has an interesting hat band and brim. That last Echter Borsalino is the one that really catches my eye, I'd love to find one like that in my size someday.
