Great score.

I picked this resistol up on facebook marketplace, something I've never done before. It was $40 and a very nice deal for the hat and original box. I'm guessing it's from the 1950's, so correct me if I'm wrong. Not sure what the style is, although I have seen a Plains marked hat that had the same dimensions, although it was from a later year... brim is 3", crown as creased is 4.5" best as I can measure and gold words are indented. The felt is as soft as butter, with only a thumbprint sized minor stain inside one of the creases. I'm not sure why she had it listed as white, although it did seem a lot lighter in her photo which is the one without a crease, very glad I asked her for a photo of the liner. The best part is that it fits like a glove, the color isn't as dark as it appears in my photo, it's a lighter shade of grey with hints of green in the sunlight.

I didn't have a Borsalino panamahat in my collection. I was looking for a white one without the standard black ribbon, so here it is. Borsalino panamahat in white with a marine blue ribbon. It's not a vintage one and has no leather sweatband, but that's okay, because i don't like leather sweatbands in summerhats. The weave is great imo., but i don't know the grade of it. Fit is perfect so let the summer may come!!! :)

Disney Hats - Milan Straw Stingy
4 7/8 Crown as shaped
Two Tone Green Grey/Black Straw
2 inch matching two tone ribbon
1 1/8 brim with bound edge
Wishbone Star Pin

Another tip off by @BobHufford .. that I managed to miss the auction on… but was lucky to find it relisted for $5 less with a Buy It Now. This Disney Hats New York Milan straw stingy is officially my shortest brim hat at a mere 1 1/8 inch. I love the two tone design for the straw and especially the ribbon. The neato pin on its bow keep has seemed to grab the most attention with varying ideas on its origins or meanings. I do very much like @RBH Rusty’s suggestion of Wish Upon a Star referencing the Unrelated but still distinctive Disney Hats name. What a looker and easy wearing grab and go hat. Thanks again to Bob for the heads up…. He is right… this one will fit in perfectly for StinJuly half way to StingyMas celebration (or Stingypendance Day as Randy @Rmccamey suggested)

Twenty-five years ago I joined IndyGear in my search for a good Indy hat. in 2003 or so when the Fedora Lounge first opened, I joined there. Little did I know that it would lead me to being a hat historian sought after by RHE Hatco and now Stetson. I figured the time was finally right to buy myself an Indy hat; I’ve waited long enough. I ordered it in November and it arrived today.

Herbert Johnson Raiders Poet in Deep Sable, no turn. The craftsmanship is pleasing. I think the deep sable is too dark for screen accuracy, but that was the only option for a Raiders hat. Now I want to save up for a Temple Poet.

Nice find Marcel. The origins of the hat marked Gelot is a little bit complicate. The tag of size is Panizza, the only Italian manufacture able in those year to made velour. The paper label is Borsalino, so take tour own conclusione

Good looking hat, Brad. Long overdue it seems.

Koch - Velour "Secunda", 58cm possibly later 1950s. Otto Koch Miesbacher Velourhutfabrik lasted to the mid 1960s. This is a very nice Close Cropped Velour that is excellent overall condition.

It's a beauty, Steve. Glad to see they're still out there.

OPA priced Royal Stetson De Luxe Vita-Felt in tan

The felt is a bit thicker than I expected, but very smooth and a nice easy hand to it. A pleasure to put on. Will be trying it out this weekend.

2 3/4" brim and 5" crown

Whoa, that's a killer hat, Don. Congrats.

Now that's an interesting one, Marcel. Cool hat. Seems to want to be worn brim up I think. I wonder when it was put together, because the label suggests the felt dates back to 1983.

Gus Miller of Batsakes Bros.
I’ve had a few Gus Miller hats pass through my hands and they all have been from, at a guess, the 1980s or newer. None of them have impressed me. The crowns have all been too low and all have had a lot of taper. Perhaps that’s how his customers like them? The build quality is adequate but nothing special. The felt is a huge disappointment and in a blind feel test I’d place it in the same league as a modern Stetson Royal. The felt is thick, not particularly soft, hard to shape, and all-around cheap feeling.

I hope someday I’ll find one of his older hats and maybe I’ll revise my opinion of his hats. From my limited experience, I’d recommend an Akubra over a Gus Miller and I’m not a big Akubra fan.
