Stetson Royal De Luxe from the late 1950s or early ‘60s. 2 ½” wide bound edge brim and 5 ½” open crown.

Josef Gratzer Hutmachermeister Miesbach, No Paper Label, measures 55cm possibly 1930s. I found the following regarding Josef Gratzer: "1949 their new hat factory. In the same year, Ulrich Rager and Josef Gratzer founded the Oberbayerische Hutfabrik GmbH", so this Velour is probably prior to that because Gratzer was already listed as a hat maker. Miesbach was a German center for Velour and Kohlndorfer was the major producer. It's possibly that Kohlndorfer was the Velour source for this hat. The black Velour has a very soft hand and has high gloss. The nap is fairly long but not quite Soleil. The greenish gold Liner also has very high gloss but is very delicate so it has some small wear tears. I took a chance on this Velour but turned out to be too small. Regardless it's a very interesting find and I learned somethings about Miesbach Hat / Velour production that I need to post.

Hard to resist those velour hats, no matter how many you've already have. Always a good find. Nice one, Steve.

Well, that lottery hat turned out ok. Turned out to be a size 7 1/8 Extra Long Oval. Close enough.

Kevin McAndrew western hat. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 7,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Very western like felt, with a nice hand though. Though to capture the exact colour in the pics, even with a grey card.
Came in with a cattleman crease and mulekicks, which I feel don't work for here. Changed it to this.

This one looked terribly beat up in sellers' pics, but I had faith.
Mossant De Luxe homburg in a dark(ish) brown called "cuba" . Size 60 with the bound brim at a generous 6,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Some staining on the liner, but other than that a wonderful looking hat. Superb felt too. Come in here dear boy, have a cigar.

I don't wear mine often enough but the brown felts that lean toward rust red are some of my favorite colors. Nice pickup, Stefan.

More Mallory action - this one a near perfect “10”. Almost as lovely as Bo Derrick jogging down a beach.

5.5 inch crown (but looks bigger), 2-5/8 inch brim.

I love the stitched brim (not sure what this style is called).

And finally the bash after some steam trying to get the most out of this fantastic block.

He will need some head time to stretch a bit, but the fit is not bad at all for a 6-7/8.

It came with a Mallory box, too, but the lid requires repair.

What a gorgeous hat, Nathan! The inside is just as lovely. I'll be posting my Mallory Dallas soon.

I've been waiting for a Jean Peille hat for a long time.
I have a great one, but the size is too big for my head so this is a happy find.
Esperaza Interno.jpg
This homburg or Diplomatique is a 6 so a 59 cm. or 7 3/8 in the US
The hat is marked Jean Peille and is made in Esperaza, the Aude region at the foot of the Pyrenees, but the manufacturer is JB or Jean Bourrel, father of a series of fabulous French hats from the early twentieth century.
Esperaza etichetta carta.jpg
This has the particularity of being made of wool, considering that Esperaza was the heart of the production of French wool hats.
Esperaza 2jpg.jpg
It is one of the rare homburgs totally made of wool that I have in my collection. Another is a product made in Monza, another center of wool felt
Esperaza 3jpg.jpg

The measurements of the Jean Pellie are as follows: the curled brims with ribbon matching the black felt are 6 centimeters, the ribbon also matching the felt is 4 centimeters high, and the open crown is 13.5 centimeters
Esperaza 4.jpg
Black felt is extremely malleable and has warm tones, despite the cooling of the tones in post production. Perhaps a pale Italian mid-morning sun is an accomplice
