Quick lousy picture of my Hufvud, which arrived yesterday. Mikael express-shipped it on his own dime, so I got it faster than anticipated. I'll take some time and try for better pics this weekend.

I had to post this morning and say that I now understand what I've been reading about custom hats vs factory hats on this site for the last 4 years. Wow. Every aspect is a step-up. This hat won't come off my head for a while.

Took a long time to arrive, but the gracious seller kicked back a big discount for my patience, so a steal deal. Going for a Panama Hat look here, courtesy of Larry Mahan the rodeo star. I had to steam the brim to straighten it out a little (still a bit wonky), and there are some scuffs, but I'm thrilled to have a fitted summer straw with a leather sweat. Here's the Tilt:

I just received this old Strat. I wasn't in the market for one as I've spent too much on hats lately but this one was not only my size of 7 1/8 but it was a long oval, my true size. I couldn't pass it up.

It took this quick center crease very well but there are some slight ghost creases of the previous deep teardrop. Its still a work in progress.

Ok, one more. I’ve had this one for a week or so but I haven’t posted it anywhere. I’m on a roll in finding vintage in my true long oval size. Found it on Posh and negotiated a very good price. I happened to see in the listing’s comment section that our infamous friend and prolific eBay seller was trying to buy it to add to dad’s extensive collection. Though, he made no mention of dad. He told her that he had sent her an offer because he wanted the hat for his grandson. Haha!

Anyhow, here it is!

Stevens Hats - 4X Beaver Western
Chocolate Brown Felt
Approx 4 3/4 Open Crown
Tri-Cord Ribbon
2 5/8 Brim with bound edge

This Stevens tri-cord 4X Beaver caught my eye and I was happy to bring it home for the opening bid which was less than its original retail price of $13.95. Maybe an interesting look at what was soon to become Stetson branded manufacturing. A bit slighter dimensions for a western with a just under 5 inch open crown and 2 5/8 bound brim. The hand is nice and smooth, but the crown is a bit stiff. It does take a nice dry crease… though it does seem to prefer its open crown. The hole noted by the seller in the front of the crown looks to be a small moth divot that doesn’t appear to go all the way through… as well as another near the top left side of the crown. Other than that the felt is in seal nice shape. The remnants of the thin yellow crinkly plastic liner tip have me guessing late 50s early 60s… but just a guess really could be a bit later.

I was able to wrangle this Stetson export away from Stefan after minutes of heated negotiating - we all know he is a tough negotiator - and it is another beautiful bowler! I know there are a lot of vintage bowlers to be had, but the 30s Stetson bowlers have become my real sweet spot! Thank you Stefan @steur

Cool find, Joe. Your findings match my own on Stevens brand. Well enough made but somewhat stiff in the crown.

Glad we could save another one. Randy. Few people wear these bowlers with the same panache. This one was in such a nice shape it just needed a good home.
