Makes me wonder why American manufacturers used these copper ferrules. You don't see them on European hats.

Happy Un-Boxing Day (no affiliation with Canada or other countries of the Kingdom who celebrate a day of packing hats). As arrived ...

Early 1950s Stetson Stratoliner. A bit rough around the edges and curled from being in too small a shipping box. There is some sort of rust rash happening on the ribbon. A nice note arrived with it -- glad to hear that the hat had a job.

Birthday present to myself this year—a new Gannon in Natural. Absolutely perfect, every detail is a pleasure to consider. Inspired by the Strat clone I posted the other day, I opted for a 2 3/8 brim. Even if the vent holes are more decorative than functional, I love them!

The Dobbs homburg and the Stetson Eagle stand out, but all are fantastic finds. Now for those 7 ½ hats to arrive!

Premiere Marque. This is a new brand for me and was part of a group of five hats with four being of European manufacture. 5 ½” open crown and 2 ½” raw edge brim. The felt is more than decent and easily takes any crease dry. The sweatband is cheap, thin, hard, and feels brittle (I’m not looking for any hidden tags). Size is 59cm or 7 ⅜ US.

Tirard in ragondia (aka: nutria, coypu, Rat Gondin). 5 ⅝” open crown and 2 ⅝” raw edge brim. I’ve handled felt with a finer finish and softer hand, but this is maybe the most moldable felt I’ve seen. It truly molds like clay without any noticeable spring back. Just wish it was my size. 59cm or 7 ⅜ US.

Worth Walden Deluxe Westerner 20X Beaver. 3 ½” raw edge brim and some very soft felt. Size 7 ¼ US or 58cm.
