Picked up an Akubra Adventurer from Del Monico. Sort Indy hat in a dark brown. But as you can see the color varies greatly depending on light. I think I may send it back or take a ride to have the crown a bit higher though.

So yesterday I went to JJ had Center in New York City and I had them reblock this hat - center crease and made the crown a little taller. Been there many times; bought hats from them also really nice shop with great customer service.

People of the past must have had small heads. Everytime I come across a hat in an antique store they are always so tiny. Im conviced that every person born before 1970 was miniature. Awesome find though, almost like time traveling. Really cool.

Michael I was born many years before the 1970 and I'm a full 7 1/2
Very small size were more common from before the WWII here in Italy

Steve, You see 1/4 Point size used for pre WWII German and Austrian Stiff Felt Hats and Silk Top Hats. I have never seen a 1/4 Point size used for a pre WWII German or Austrian Soft Felt Hat. My guess is they wanted more exacting sizing for Stiff Felts and Silk Top Hats. I am not sure if other European countries used 1/4 Point sizing but highly probably.

Here is a JHS Chart probably from the late 1800s to early 1900s with 1/4 Point Sizes. Not sure why 6 1/4 is 60cm. Misprint?

That, or everything we've heard about hat felts being superior during The Golden Era was all lies and every one of those hats shrunk to astonishingly small sizes over the years.

Then again, those Anthropologists have documented evidence that we as a species have grown larger over the last century or so, so...

Mayser "Libelle", 58 cm, possibly later 1950s. The Felt has a great color / finish and easily dry creases. Also a really interesting Bow and Brim treatment. This is my second "Libelle" so not a common Mark.

Unique "Echter Mayser" Celluloid Label attached to the Sweatband. I have never seen one of these before so a very pleasant surprise.

Doesn’t look to have much taper. I tried re-blocking a SunBody a couple years ago with no luck. The palm just would not stretch. It molds great, but it doesn’t stretch worth a darn.

The palm leaf will stretch just fine. It's the fishing line they sew the hood together that is the culprit.
