Interesting Resistol that arrived without a crown ribbon. It’s also a total letdown as the seller claimed there weren’t any size tags or labels and there are both. Based on the measurements provided I had hoped it was three sizes larger. A full three inch wide brim and I really like the wider brim binding.

Thanks, Steve. Yes, the liner is stitched in. There aren’t any markings that I can find stating the it was made under license for Stetson: is that normal?
Brent, The the original Sweatband was replaced with the Stetson Sweatband. You can see the stitches along the reed in the Sweatband photos. Is it 55 or 56 on the Paper Label? That would be the CM size. My guess is the hat is later 1950s.

Thanks, Steve! Mystery solved: replacement sweatband. It’s labeled a size 56. You always amaze me with both your knowledge and your willingness to share. Thanks again!

Royal De Luxe Stetson Stetsonian, but it’s a few sizes too small. What a hat! Wide Whippet-esque brim binding but the binding is much wider on the top of the brim and narrower on the bottom. 5 1/2” open crown and 2 3/4” brim…and sadly a size 7 1/8. The sweatband is nice and supple and the hat is pretty clean. The felt is fawn and more brown than the photos show. The felt is substantial and should make a good cool weather hat for someone. Off to eBay.

Stetson The Sovereign Twenty. Mode edge 5 5/8” open crown and 2 1/2” brim. Size is 7 1/4 and the hat is is great shape except for some thinning/weak spot at the point of the pinch.

Despite the outsized heat, summer also brings some gems
FA 7.jpg

French hat branded FA size 5 1/2 or 7 1/8 probably made in the 1920s.
FA 4.jpg

Difficult to find a hat of this shape and finish among those I have in my collection or seen passing by friends and FL fans.
FA 2.jpg
First of all it has a very high ribbon, 5 cm. pleated, second has the brims (6.5 cm) edged with black ribbon and very inflexible by today's standards, which means that they were in position as you can see. Maybe a little more well arranged, but time has made some changes.
FA 1.jpg

The shape is that of the hats of that period and I have not made the pinches in the crown which is 12 centimeters high at its lowest point. Felt is fantastic for its softness and surface finish.
FA interno completo.jpg
Completely unlined, it bears the FA mark and no other indications, also because there are no paper labels under the sweatband
FA Marchio.jpg
The brand seems to me at first sight unknown among the ones I have seen, but I will try more in depth
FA Negozio.jpg
FA Taglia.jpg

We see the size and Andrea's shop who sold it in Culan (a French commune of 805 inhabitants located in the Cher department in the Center-Val de Loire region).
FA 5.jpg

This FA, let's call it that, is another of the summer sins considering that it is not my size, although it could almost be, but it is asking too much of such a beauty

This new manufacturer Mayser almost defeated me. I’ve had it since early June but I just couldn’t make nice with it. I tried to re-block it and all I did was screw it up. Yesterday I figured out that you have to heat it up (steam) and you have less than two seconds before it’s cooled and won’t let you shape it. I had to heat it dozens of times to get it to where it was acceptable. 4 5/8” creased crown at the dip and 3 3/8” bound brim. The brim is solid and blocks all light. The crown is a fine mesh and very breathable.

I'm not surprised; it looks like it's made from carbon fiber. :p But seriously, that relatively open mesh looks like it'll be cooler to wear on the hotter/humid days while still providing a bit of shade. Nice!
