Rockel "Velourette", 58 cm possibly late 1950s. The finish is Chamois like so I would be interesting to know why Rockel chose the "Velourette" name. I have one other "Velourette" and it also has a Chamois like finish. I really like the Ribbon and Bow design. This is the second hat from my recent seven hat find.

6” open crown and 3” wide brim. The sewn brim edge treatment was a bonus left over from the hats previous life. It started as a Borsalino made for the religious market and was beyond soft, well into the floppy range. Robert slowly added shellac to give it the perfect stiffness with the brim stiffer than the crown. The hand is as soft as ever! The ribbon and bow work is good and the ribbon color is darker and more subdued than it shows in photos. Robert did a great job with the build and it’s exactly like I had hoped! This won’t be my last Wolfbrae!

Burns Saddlery 8X Beaver. The felt color is “dirt.” It is quite nice and the heather look is cosmetic only as the hand is smooth and the felt is fairly soft for a western. The bound brim is 4” wide and the crown is just under 5 1/2 inches. The crown would ideally be taller, but the inside doesn’t touch my head as creased. I like the hat, the finish, and the color so much I’m thinking of having it reblocked with a taller crown and with a 3 1/2” brim. In the meantime, I’ll play around with different creases.

The brim shape is how it arrived and it won’t last long. I have never warmed to this style.

Very nice, Brent (and RObert). You'll have to start a thread for him.

I cannot read "kitten finish" and not picture kittens with sandpaper working on a hat

And now I won't, either.

What a kitten finish may look like:
