This is one of those you know you are going to love regardless of what fur it is, the age or who made it. A wonderful rust red Milano homburg sent by my dear friend, Stefan @steur . Pictures don't do this one justice, my photo skills are not the best - the rust red is very prominent with a chocolate 1 1/2 ribbon and wide binding on a 2 3/8ths brim. I don't know that I remember seeing a binding so close to a D'Orsay curl not on a bowler. And a lightly pleated liner, as well! The felt has some character to it and the overall body is just right - light on the head but firm enough to hold its shape. I pulled the front and rear of the brim to give it more of a western character. I look forward to wearing this one a lot when the weather cools down this fall.

I am really enjoying the lines of this Lee Black Label “Commentator” and it has definitely gotten some head time the past few days. It shares a bit of block styling with my Lee Bronze label. The felt is a rich chocolate brown with a matching grosgrain mid ribbon. The brim is 2 1/2 underwelt edge with a neat stitching pattern. The generous 2 inch sweatband is nice and Soft.. the seam bow at the rear or the sweat has come unattached so I need to reattach that. The cool Lee liner is loose... though I may take it out and set it aside. Those little details aside the felt is in real nice shape and I really love the look and feel of this hat.

Picked up this little Dobbs Rainbow the other day. I found it as a pork pie, but changed it to a c crown. Something about the heathered underwelt felt and that wide textured ribbon just called to me.

additionally, I picked up this wide and a little whimsical Atwood palm straw driving through Laramie yesterday.

Here's an interesting one. An old Flechet Baku straw, probably 60's. My first French hat, and while it has some obvious condition issues I can't complain for what I paid for it, as hard as vintage Bakus are to find. Never owned or even held a Baku before and it really is remarkably light - far lighter than my Montecristi.

It's funny how European hats are unmistakable, even at a glance. This is definitely lived-in - sun-baked patina, a few wrinkles in the band (which I suspect I'll swap out, though I actually quite like it), a crease that will never come out. But it has a certain Je ne sais quoi and it's very comfortable on a hot day. Also a really high-quality sweatband.

whilst at it .. this 50's 5X arrived awhile back.
stitching that holds bow and size tag came undone .. i have both.
original box, $35 receipt from 57' and Blackburn Brothers brush included.
hat has an incredible hand.

This came to me as an exchange for the Boegel's Milan that was listed in the Classifieds. Having never gone the custom route before it was a very fun process and working with @belfastboy was extremely easy. The felt is a brown heathered Tonak and the ribbon is vintage stock from Art Fawcett's sold off collection. I still haven't decided how I want to shape it yet, but the open crown is starting to grow on me as is.

A unique opportunity to get a custom made hat. Thanks @belfastboy!

Yes, but it is a very soft opening. I am caught up in the commissions and am taking a break while I recover from a minor surgical procedure that ended up being more complicated....(funny how that works!). I do want to order a few more blocks as I see a need for a fuller more #52 like block so I can offer a fuller straighter crown.

The blocks I have are a more traditional with a bit of taper. I am waiting for a new rounding jack from Rick as well and that will take about 3 weeks more to get here. I am shooting for a September launch.

Some of you may have seen this one posted on Facebook (I spend too much Covid Lock Down time there lately), another Mike Miller creation that I picked up last Thursday. Mike knew that I was coveting the original Winchester black cherry felt dye color, the current one is way too black. He got a hold of some old bodies from Art and set one aside for me. The color is just perfect! It is not as "purple" as some of my images picked up in the sunshine. Ever since I saw Bill Hughes' double tear drop crown, I had to try one, it really picks up the shine of the black cherry. I went with a medium gray ribbon and gills, gills, gills (my favorite). I told him to surprise me on the brim treatment, I was very pleased. This one will get some serious head time this winter.
