Lodenfrey, black, size 58. Bound brim at 6cm, crown 10,5cm at the pinch. Lodenfrey is a well-known menswear business in Munich and are still in business today. This was made for them and I think it's certain it was done by P&C Habig of Vienna.

And here's a picture of a hat-label by P&C Habig. Looks like they just cut off the Habig name on the left.
This would make this hat date back from 1959. The shape it took of its own accord using steam.

Here's an interesting find. Looking for vintage hats sometimes has you more or less upside down digging through piles of hats in a large bin (a dream come true for some here I guess). You have to wade your way through all the ho-hum and downright awful hats in search for a gem. This one I dug up by the feel of the felt alone. Dry shaping it a little I thought it had quite a nice shape to it, but even pinheads like myself strike out sometimes. It's nowhere near my size. Named Brasiliano Extra on the sweatband in a familiar font I thought it another fake Borsalino, until I looked at the label. It is in fact a real pre-war Borsalino. Size 54, no liner, raw edge brim at 6cm and crown at 9,5 cm at the pinch. I think the word on the label is Pisco, but I'm not sure.
At that price I couldn't leave it there.

One of the hats in the haul of this friday was this one. Quite the surprise to find this one sitting in the street in front of a market stall in Amsterdam. It was in a bit of a state, but nothing taht would stop me.
GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro homburg in olive/sage colour. Qualitá finissima. Green brim binding and brown ribbon. Brim 5,5cm and crown 11cm at the pinch. Unlined with a cloth crown partch. made for PJ Remkes, The Hague. Mothing damage on the underside of the brim (bot nowhere else). The pictures are the "before" shots. It received al well deserved naphta bath and came out quite a bit cleaner (but not entirely perfect). No label inside the hat, but a newspaper clipping with a date of 1935.

This one I got from the bay. After losing several auctions in a row and letting this one go earlier due to it being the wrong size, I decided to take a chance. Something needed to be done!
Barbisio homburg in Maia colour (brown). Size 55, brim at 6,3cm and crown 10cm at the pinch. NOS of the M. Hutter collection of Merano, Italy. Dirt cheap and with a wee stretch fits me. My guess is 1960's.

Mossant in dark grey, called tourbe (peat) on the label. Unlined and with a stitched brim at 6cm and crown at 10cm at the pinch. Lovely lightweight felt hat.

Chisnall (sounds English doesn't it?) nutria fedora in grey (zomo on the label). Made in Germany, so in the right thread. Don't know who the maker might be. Maybe Steve will recognize the mark on the label. Chamois finish, underwelt edge with the brim at a breath short of 6cm and crown 10cm at the pinch. It used to have some kind of pork pie crease in it but I quickly talked it out of that. Liner still stitched in, so I'm guessing late fifties.

Barbisio Nero, size 59, bound brim at 5,5cm and crown 11cm at the pinch. This one has the most gorgeous shark gill bow. Made especially for A. Breiter of Munich. It will be making its way back to Italy.

P&C Habig homburg in brown. This one was part of a set of three with another Habig homburg in black (didn't buy that one) and the GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro homburg (posted earlier). According to the vendor part of the same auction. Makes sense. The black one was from 1952 and the GB Borsalino is from 1935. My guess is that this one is in between (it's lost its label); forties to early fifties.
Size 56, brim at 6cm and crown 10cm at the pinch. Unlined with a cloth crown patch. This is the "before" shoot. Most of the stains on the ribbon came out. Made expressly for Eduard Pelger, The Hague, which is still in business today. Fits me like a custom.

I like both these blacks for different reasons, but they are really astounding.
Brasiliano was another of the Borsalino tricky to sell hats with others brands. I likeit very, very much!

The same ribbon treatment as the Chisnall, but a different maker. The basting stitches are still in there, which is always nice. Don't know who the maker might be. Liner still stitched in, so not a late production.

Thanks, Justin. Seems to have been quite a popular style at one point. The Chisnall has the same style and I have a Peschel with this one too.
