New Hat Day. Some of you might have seen this one on the bay recently. It didn’t receive any bids first time through and it came back with a BIN. Lust attack came upon me, and, well, here it is. Lovely felt. 2-5/8 brim with cav edge, wind trolly, and overall in excellent shape. (Better pics than mine in the eBay listing if yer curious.) The color is a great greenish-gray, like nothing I’ve seen in person before. I assume Cripps was an upscale clothing store in NYC but can’t find anything about them online. Anyone ever see another fedora from Cripps? Who made it for them? Any more info out there? Thanks!

First of all, congratulations to Mike, on the other side of the ocean, even in the face of the Pacific and you for the fruitful exchange.
American hats are a rarity here in Europe and two of these catch my attention.
In order of preference:
- Knox Fifteen Tom & Jerry
- Stetson Twenty the Sovereign
The other two are equal, slightly distant
I have accumulated a good deal of European hats to sell or exchange, but my size is very different from Stefan's. I am a 7 1/2 sometimes 7 3/8.
This is a warning to seafarers in the sea of hats.
I have available many Italian hats in all sizes, maybe there is yours too. Ask and I hope you will have satisfaction
Meanwhile, I enjoy the exchange meditating on US hats
Complimenti a Mike e Stefan!
Daniele, thank you. On the sea of hats, there are always new horizons to explore!

Follow-up to the tease earlier. This is my new creation from Mike Miller of Northwest Hats in Eugene. Lt Blue Winchester felt in bunny. Mike has a new pouncing mojo for rabbit and it is smooth as a baby's butt. The crown is a Cuenca straw formed to a classic fedora style. But what really gets me revved up is the beautiful shark's gill ribbon work. This hat will have to go back in the box until spring, but the first sunny day... It really is fanatastic, Mike. Mike Miller really did great work on this. Wonderful colour combination.

Posted these earlier in the Borsalino thread. Seems not everybody looks there and these really deserve an audience and they are new, so.... Borsalino Export Qualität Gran Lusso in the colour Ghiaccio and the designation Bocciasti. Size 57 with a bound brim at 5cm and crown at 10cm at the pinch. Lined with onionskin/oilskin covering of liner tip, corrugated spacer in front and with a windcord this hat comes in at a stunning 77 grams. Fantastic thin and soft felt that takes and holds any shape. A 5cm brim is short for my taste but it does fit this hat perfectly.

Nice pick up!

Cripps Hat Co. had an intense rivalry with their cross-town rival, The Blood Hat Co. Even to the point where employees would identify themselves to each other with hand gestures in public.

The annual softball game between the two companies was quite competitive.

This one took me by surprise a bit. It was so incredibly crumpled that at first I thought it was one of those coffin hats. Great colour and other than the crumpled look in fine shape, so I had to have it. Still looks a bit creased but more steam will be applied. Borsalino in the colour Palladio and designation Ergosan. Size 56, unreeded and unlined, but with a corrugated spacer in front. Lovely stitched raw edge brim at 6,5 cm and crown at 9,5cm at the pinch. This hat comes in at an astonishing 60 grams (a good 2 ounces). I have other lightweight Borsalino hats, but this one beats them by a landslide. Touching the hat is shaping it and you could literally blow it into shape. A very nice touch are the starshaped perforations on either side. I've never seen these before on a Borsalino. I take a bow for the amount of incredible craftsmanship that must have gone into this hat.

That's about a gram lighter than my Parabuntal.
Crazy.
Glad it went to a true afficionado of fine felt.

Very fine quality hat. The features of a high end offering are evident. That sweat is cool. Hard to tell the original manufacture of this one, no doubt from one of the jobbers in Danbury. Cripps may show up in the business directory of NY I have saved, I'll give them a look. Google is no real help.

These two catches are truly beautiful Stefan. Interesting light colors (and their names) and that star ventilation, nice! You do good hats my friend.
