Sacrilegious?

Just bought this nice camel colored (1940s?) Portis Sterling at an antique store for $30. Needs a good cleaning but overall in good shape. Unfortunately, no size tag and it’s too small for me. Probably a 7 1/8 and I’m a 3/8. So would it be sacrilegious to have my hatter re-band it? Only re-banded a perfectly good hat once and not sure how I feel about it. Thoughts???

that's a beautiful hat Mike

I don't see any sacrilege in replacing a ribbon ... but in all honesty I see absolutely nothing wrong with the original

it looks completely fine to me ... even quite nice

Thanks much. I might have been unclear though - I meant the sweat band so it would fit. The ribbon is in nice and I think there’s enough material that it can be saved if I do have it sized up. Thanks again!

Last one from fridays harvest. Hückel in grey. No label in this one but there are two names stamped on the inside of the sweatband: Durit and Elefant. Durit refers to the quality I think and elefant to the colour. Size 56 with a bound brim at 6cm and crown 10cm at the pinch. This one is actually very close in feel to the one I swapped with Moehawk. Never thought I'd find another and much closer to my size (well it is my size, but Hückel tends to be roomy). This is missing its hanging cord, but I can live with that.

The Lounge Gods will not be pleased.

I see perfect fodder for a trade for a hat that fits you. Throw it on our classifieds listed as will trade for a 7 3/8 fedora. Couldn't hurt.
