Found this absolutely killer Dobbs today. Unfortunately it's a couple sizes too small for me. I hate that. This is one of the finest felts I've ever laid my hands on, and that liner! I couldn't pass that up.

Ottmar Reich (Lindenberg), 58cm, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 1/2 inches, probably late 1950s early 1960s. I am not really sure what to make of this one because it has the feel of an older hat. The felt is really fantastic and easily dry creases. It's very well made with high quality components. The paper label is hand written which is strange and liner is glued in (could have been altered?). The Ottmar Reich Soft Felts I have come across are of a later time period so nothing to compare it to. Ottmar Reich was best known for Straw Boater Hats but started making Soft Felt hats in the late 1920s.

Sometimes Ebay pays off, sometimes not so much. This Cavanagh straw looked ok in the BIN listing. It is not a total loss, it just will need some TLC. A good cleaning an reblocking will bring this one back to life. Nice tight weave, stingy 1960s brim and it is a Cavanagh. All is not lost, it does not look as good in had as in these images.

IIRC this logo puts it post 1934 so Im guessing 40's or 50's

Thanks D. It is quite a thin felt with a decent snap in the brim. I traded the panama I was wearing this afternoon for this one when I went to the concert downtown tonight. It was it's first outing on the bike and it behaved itself nicely. And it did elicit one "Nice Hat" comment from a fellow concert goer.

I had the Cav reflanged by Mike Miller, the brim is not so wonky anymore. Really a light hat, very comfortable. Mike said it wasn't all dirty, the straw has the proper patina. I'm going with that.
