Just in time for Father's Day weekend, the Akubra Federation IV Deluxe arrived today. I have been watching videos this evening on how to bash it. Thankfully, the 60cm seems to fit well. It is just a tad loose, so it should fit really nice after a couple of days of wearing. Since it shipped so fast, the Balmoral might be here within a couple of days.

Here is my first attempt at bashing the hat. It is a lot easier than I thought. I am pleased with my first attempt. I have always been drawn to the tear drop look. I can't say why, only that it is what pleases my eyes when I look at it.
Forgive the unshaped beard and mustache. I didn't fix it up as I was working in the yards today. I really like the hat, and I look forward to many years of adventures with it.

Nicely done! I think that crown height and brim width suit you well.

...I think I was nervous to do too.much, but after working with it I see how forgiving it can be. I will work on it some more after I go and look at some more pictures.

I like it as it is, but it's your hat so do what you want with it. As long as you don't actually damage it, the felt is quite resilient and can take almost anything you or nature can dish out for years to come.

Nice work! I always start with the center crease. Sometimes the hat stays that way, other times they progress to a tear drop or diamond crease. I didn't like the diamond much when I first started accumulating hats. Now I really like them, although only about 10% of my hats have the diamond crease.

That's something I have to remind myself about all the time. I'm practically ADHD about symmetry. I literally force myself to wear my hat tilted to the side, to have one side dent deeper or longer than the other side. If you look at the old movies and photos of hatted gents, you rarely see a perfectly symmetrical bash. Everyone has their hat creased different from the guy next to them and symmetry plays no significant part in it.

I have to work at it. It seems like it just comes naturally to others, like our resident mentors Moon, Rick, 40 Cal, etc, etc, etc...

I had no idea what to expect because admittedly I know next to nothing about Churchill ... I am pleasantly surprised

The hat is superbly constructed and the felt is very nice

What is most interesting to me is the color.
The color is called "Natural"
It is sort of taupe... but very much has some almost sage green undertones... great color.
the true color does not show up in these photos

The hat appears to be completely unworn and to never have been creased

I don't think I will crease it any time soon because I am undecided as to whether I will keep it or not... it is slightly loose on me.... we'll see
Honestly it wasn't love at first sight

generally my hat appeal leans more toward pieces made no later than mid 50s

this is a really nice hat ... impeccably crafted and in mint condition

but the fact that it is slightly loose on me coupled with it being 60s at the very earliest is what makes me consider moving it to someone who will appreciate it much more than I will

Just in from USPS, is my new Akubra Balmoral. It is a little big, but fits nicely once I put the sizing material in place.

Borsalino Qualita Superiore

Super pliable grey felt, stitched liner. Picture colour not great. 4 stars in the front of the sweat and marked Sools so for France (and bought in France). 5.5" open crown, 2.5" over-welt brim, 2 inch black ribbon and a wind trolley missing the button.

My first Borsalino, need to work out the best crease.
