Hückel Wien, measures 55cm. Hückel brand name but with Carl Kellner Hamburg sweatband. I have only seen the Hückel Wien designation used with WWI era hats. It has characteristics of an older hat but I think it's post WWII. The felt is really fantastic and it appears to have a silk liner which is also like no other Hückel I have encountered (pre WWII JHS, Hückel Tonak, Hückel Weilheim). This is hat is a total mystery.

This was a confusing hat when I first bought it. The pics were vague and it looked like a Butch Dorer hat that someone had dropped an Orvis liner in. Turns out that at one time Orvis had licensed Dorer hats and sold them. This hat is the Dorer bar 50 which is what they market as their working cowboy hat, a 50/50 blend of beaver/hare. It has a felted band with sterling buckle and tip. Cowboy stiff with a 3 1/2" brim and about 5 1/2" open crown. the last photo shows the box it was shipped in, hence the ironed out shape it is in now. Gotta figure out what shape to put in it.

That hat is pure as the undriven snow. Truly magnificent.

Mallorys are special hats, and this one knocks it out of the park!

Love it Greg! I think I recall reading on the forum that Levine hats were produced by one of the larger hat makers and sold as a store brand by Levine. I just don't recall the details. Congrats on a great catch!
Awesome hat! Very cool hat, great color, and unique maker. I think I recall reading on this forum that Levine hats were made by one of the larger hat makers of that era, but I just don't recall the details. Regardless, that is a stunner, Greg!
I too remember something about a private label.Given Levine's location it would seem that Beaver Brand might have been the source.

Update: I am thinking Weilheim probably early 1950s with special components for Carl Kellner Hamburg.

My New Gannon in Navy Blue, with a 2" Vintage Steel Blue Ribbon..

I dont know why but every Gannon is so perfect and so different, and the way I work with Michael in a way that is always fluid, fast, a couple of ideas, some explaining 2 or 3 mails and BUM a great hat emerges..

This one is a thing of beauty, maybe my niccest Gannon, no, wait, the Silvermist mmm the Powder Blue, not the red Black Cherry, maybe the Black Black Cherry, or the Bone with Rust? Hard to decide

All gorgeous, all beautiful, all percectly made, all with a soul of its own

Nice even for a 3.5" brimmed hat.
Why do people ship western hats in tiny boxes...
