So here is my latest addition and with it I am sure I will have my work cut out for me......I didn't expect to be the final "bid", but the best laid plans of mice and men and all that sort of thing....I got the "boobie prize" ..LOL !

This is a Stephen L. Stetson (I am sure many saw it on ebay for months...LOL ), and this thing is a wreck!....The sweat band is literally falling apart in your hands, the hat is covered with stains, however not one bug bite anywhere ! No oder, so I have at least that going for me........I have another "famous ten" and this one is so different from that ....Anyone have an ideas as to how old it might be????

Stephen L. Stetson – Fedora - Medium Brown color with light gold/brown hat band/ribbon with side bow and edging around the brim. The “brim edging” is wider on the under brim and smaller on the top-brim – different than the other Famous Ten, that I have. Company name, size and model number is in the liner/sweat band and states: SLS - Essex – 556 – size 7 3/8. Sweat band is a “Carter’s Removable Sweat Band” with the wrong Patent number (1877982). The sweat band is thin brown slightly “textured” leather – On sweat band in embossed gold lettering is T. Frank - Mt. Pleasant – TENN. On other side of sweat band is “Custom Felted” above an insignia of two beavers on opposite sides of a tree stump – below this insignia are the words” FAMOUS TEN”. Inside hat has off golden silk liner with Company crest enclosed in clear plastic, below are the worlds in red Hat’s sweat band is literally flaking and falling apart, and hat has numerous stains and spots…..It appears that the sweat band was removed and sewn in, positioned incorrectly !

I've seen other examples of this brim treatment here on the lounge.

Looks like a felted edge from the top, but is a carefully stitched underwent with stitches that don't go through.

Here is a better set of picts for my new Panama Hats Direct hat. I wanted a very wide brim with a non-leather sweatband and not too much stiffener and I roll these hats up. I have been doing it on another panama and it works great. Or course it takes a little work to get it back in shape and sometimes some steam. Anyway. There were were problems on the way to this hat but they replaced the first one and this one has everything I had asked for. So I think it turned out pretty good. Sorry I could not find a better model for these picts.
