If I could find a 4+" brim with a 5" open crown I would make a replica of a Planters hat to wear to living history events. Maybe the Bushman is something to look for?
I think the Akubra Territory is a good candidate to convert. I didn't want to pay $100+ for something that I probably won't wear all that much but I may include one with my next order/shipment. The Territory has a good bit of packer on the front & back of the brim. I figured if I can't hand roll the curl in the brim then I would prefer not to have the packer & leave it flat. I have a big Sunbody palm leaf with a Gus crease that's a work hat, all dirty etc. I've thought about trying to convert it first.I saw this hat and realized I want to try to convert my recent Dynefelt purchase to something similar. Not sure I'm going to add distressed cavalry cords, but I might swap the ribbon to make it look a bit more like this one. I don't have anything close to the equipment to flange the brim to hold that shape, so I'm planning to keep a more flat brim with a front break.
Edit: guess a pic of the hat would help...
Watch out for a surprise "visit"from Joao.
That must be massive!Watch out for a surprise "visit"from Joao.
Was it on sale?Ohh sorry - I didn't buy the thing!
That crown is pulled down in there deep like the original planters hat. It would look better with a wide ribbon rather than the narrow one, in my opinion; wouldn't look so massive.
It is up for sale, Joao. Click the picture, and you get to the listing on eBayWas it on sale?
Oh no! That is crazy. That hat looks top notch. I don't know if I have ever seen a size 6 1/4 hat. What a complete bummer. This showed up at my studio this afternoon
Beautiful hat ... Very nice green ...but unfortunately it is the size of a child's hat.
I mean tiny... I think 1/4 means 6 1/4
It will be going back

Oh man.... sorry Moon. That is one incredible hat! I've never seen a 61/4... you would think they would have a different size tag than the 7 1/4This showed up at my studio this afternoon
