Very nice! Stetson filed the 3X Beaver trademark in 1920 - no first use in trade is shown. Sweatband LOTXXXX number and other tags would be very interesting to see. Here is another derby with that slanted grade imprint.

Great looking Homburg! Wearing Homburgs is no big deal. Today they are just another hat style. Actually when Edward VII brought the style back to England it was controversial. If you get a chance post it in the Homburg Nation thread.

Fantastic find! I really like the contrast of the red liner. You always make interesting finds. Keep them coming!

I'd been wanting an OR style hat for awhile and I found this one on the Bay awhile ago. Listed as never worn, though the photos were a little vague, the hat appeared to be in good condition, just a little dirty and no visible issues that a little steam wouldn't take care of. I like Champs and the sellers communication was good and they accepted my offer, probably a little high but I wanted a hat.

When the hat arrived I was po'd. The thing was as crumpled as the newspaper it was packed in, and dirty wont begin to describe the condition, it created a dust cloud when I brushed it and when the dust was gone the stains and moth nibbles became visible. The nibbles were not too bad with the exception of one which is under the band. The only really good things were the sweat, liner and band. I set about trying to contact the seller only to find that was not possible as they were no longer registered with eBay. My only recourse was to contact eBay and decided that would only p!$$ me off more . So after sitting on it for a couple weeks I decided to clean it myself and attempt to shape it. Should have taken before pics. Anyway, did the naptha bath, a lot of steam and my iron along with a lot of hand work. I think I used everything but a hammer on it. My first experience, by the way and probably my last.

I think i came out great. :eusa_clap Quality fur can take a lot of abuse and still have lots of life.

I recently received a mid grade Dobbs Pacesetter stuffed into a small flat rate box.



I wasn't surprised though - what could I expect from a $7.95 BIN with free shipping?

After a little work, it looks like this. I find it satisfying to bring a hat back to wearable condition.



I understand the disappointment in getting something much worse than expected. But I think you have a talent for bringing a mess back to life, and should consider doing it more often. Well done!

Got my first old fur-felt hat! Nothing like what most of you post as it is a bit dirty and his a moth nip under the brim. Good enough for me as I can't have nice things.

I found it in a flea-market in Cabool, MO. It was priced at $59.95, but they were having a 30% off sale so I offered $30 and they accepted. Not sure of the year -- maybe late 1950s (I think Dando's store opened in 1957). That's me in the junk store asking my wife if it made me look fat. Since we were in Texas County I was rockin' the Texas County tuxedo.

Under the sweat band is the number 371238 as well as "58" hand-written.

I blame you all for this. I never really wore hats as my tall head made most hats look pretty goofy. Now I'm old enough that I don't really care.

I also have an Akubra coming from a Good Will auction. This may be a slippery slope.

and I would agree with your guess of late 50s simply judging by the dimensions, the sweat, and the last drop graphic

Bob, that's a great first fur felt. I have one like it, and it's a fine example from the last years of the high quality Stetsons. moon is correct that your estimate of the age of the hat is about right, and I would say your "I don't really care" attitude due to age is about right, too. We'll gladly accept the blame for making you do this.

It looks great on you and matches up well with the tuxedo.
