Just got a beautiful Coast to Coast. I date her to be about post WWII 1940s. The sweat is slightly rough but is holding up good. I puts some cadillac leather care on it. Has a union stamp in it. United Hatters Cap and Millinery.

Got my first Champ and my first hat check slip! The hat was sold in Syracuse, NY. I bought it from Florida and I live in NY. I brought it home to it's home state. The hat check was dated Dec 27 ,1955. So the hat is definitely mid 50s .

I just ordered the bluegrass green CD. I'm a bit nervous about the color, but I've always had the kind of complexion that lends itself towards earthy tones. I'm hoping this particular green works on me. Do you find the color works enough to include in your regular rotation? Or do you find it a special situation kind of thing?

Dave, I wear the bluegrass on a very regular basis. It goes with almost everything. I like it better that I thought I would. You won't be sorry.

Lol. Looks like u got a little bit of a diamond crease beginning to happen... I kept my first a very high center dent w soft wide pinches. The Bluegrass Green went to a telescope bash. No pinches. Looks a bit like a gambler/plantation hat and that style works well with the color. GOTTA GET A FED!

P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin "Special Qualität" with "Auto Cape", size 58cm, very good condition, 208 grams, probably mid 1930s. The hat has an very unique inner gray felt shell (Auto Cape?). The felt shell might be removable but I am not going to take a chance trying to remove it. The felt shell adds extra weight but the hat is still very comfortable to wear.

As I wait for the Fed IV and the BGCD to inch their way across the globe and into my possession, I decided to get my hat fix this morning with a trip to my local hat outlet guy. He deals with mostly Baileys, 95% of which are wool. I've pillaged all his fur felts, so today, I was searching for (hopefully) a higher end Bailey straw for summer. I picked these two up for $30 total. Both have elastic sweatbands, which I prefer for summer. And they are extra large, which means they fit wonderfully on my 7 1/2 head.

The first is a Bailey Hanson Litestraw Fedora with a 1" gray ribbon and a 2 1/4" brim. It sells here at the Village hat shop for $105. The shantung straw is very soft and requires some delicacy. With the steam kettle, I nurtured it into a teardrop and added more dent to the sides, and I really LOVE this hat.

The next one, I'm less sure about. It's a cheaper panama straw, very dark and not quite black with a 2 1/8" brim and a 1 1/2" black gosgrain ribbon. What was interesting is that it came as, I guess, an open crown. Either that or you're supposed to wear it that way. I took a chance and shaped it with steam. It took a bit of work, but I got the teardrop in it, and since it's a stiffer hat, it holds the shape nicely. I'm just not sure I like it all that much, but I've always felt that way with black hats. We'll see.

David, both look good on you. I have the same view on black hats. For me, since they don't reflect light like the lighter-colored felts, they can look "heavy". But they have their place. I have a couple of black felt hats and one black Milan straw hat. They don't get a lot of wear, but I do wear them when the mood strikes.

By the way, I think you will like the BCGD. It's a versatile color.

Wow, Dave, fantastic job of shaping the straw. I like them both. If my current order with Panama Hats direct goes south (it might and pardon the pun), I might look into that first Bailey.

You did a really nice job on the teardrop. I don't have a black straw but that hat makes me want one.

Thank you Bob. It took about three attempts. The first attempt was just terrible, because I wasn't exactly sure what I was going for. You just let the hat gods guide you, but the devil won the first round. The porch shot was actually my second effort. But you know how it is when you let it sit a while and come back to it, and then you really "see" what you've done? I realized the crown was too low. So back to it. I was happy enough by the end of the third effort that I actually started to like the hat.

I was happy enough by the end of the third effort that I actually started to like the hat.

Your wlcm. Yes, very tru. Put it away n get a fresh perspective. The confirmation between crown height front and back and brim size looks just right.
