I recently picked up this vintage Resistol 7X “Chute” model on ebay. I was warned in the description that there was minor damage to the crown and photos were provided. When I got the hat, the damage did not look too bad – until I steamed it and whatever was being used to plug the moth holes fell out. The hat is otherwise very nice and has a tall crown. So I decided to take a run a turning it into a hat like John Wayne wore in the Cavalry trilogy and many others. I know from discussions on TFL that the original hat was a very thin, soft felt and this hat is well-finished, but a heavier, stiffer felt. I have not decided whether I will keep it or not, but was pleased with the final results (and the holes now add “character”).

This 5x beaver Stetson. I believe it is a modern one. No size tag, no ticket, only mark is an 8 on the inside side of the sweatband. It is a 7 1/8. Maybe I can stretch it.

That looks much better in profile than your aerial view.
In Oklahoma they always wanted to sell me a hat that ran high.
Let us know how the stretching works out.

Got this like-new Royal Stetson ('49-'56) today. It appears that no one ever wore it, so it's a 60 year-old brand new hat.

SUPER finds, ALL!

TPD166 that came out REALLY nicely, sir. Good work!

Joao you will definitely get enough room in a stretch of that hat.

Mark I really like that straw, my friend! Sometimes a favorite hat comes by surprise. It's great!

Aaron, Aaron, Aaron, WOW! Stunning. Completely STUNNING!!

Not sure how I'll stretch it.
Not sure how it looks just like it is... "being higher". May not be very comfortable to wear...

Stetson Nutria Quality. I'm guessing this dates to early 1950s but would welcome any help in dating. Price sticker inside sweatband reads $15.

Great hats guys!

Aaron, that is a beautiful Stetson! I'm probably going to be embarrassed I asked the question but what is "OFAS"?

Rick, great Nutria! I wish I could find a nice Nutria in my size.
