The hat was made for the American market. This country was at war with Italy. There were no hats crossing the Atlantic. The Borsalino factory was damaged during the war and they did not restart selling hats in America until sometime in 1947.(and that's all I know about that)

Scored Another One

Hi Everybody ,I scored another cheap one and this one was brand new .
I have alot of straw summer fedora's but none in black.
Some other person tried to bid thinking he or she was the only bidder in the last seconds but didn't post a high enough bid , so I scored it .

During my recent visit to The U.S. I visited Major More at his Buckaroo Hatters in Covington, TN. Besides making a beaver fedora in his shop (more on that in the Buckaroo thread when I recieve some more photos from the day), I bought two straw hats. One was a standard quality OR - and one was a beautiful Parabuntal. I took some pics of the latter, before I shipped them from Nashville:



The body is from a 60 year old batch, found at Winchester, that Mike bought a while ago. This he blocked with an Optimo ridge on top of the crown. The hat is in a box at the post office at the moment, so the precise specs will have to wait till tomorrow.

It sponged me up a whole lot of compliments in the streets of Nashville. It seems btw. that Americans are a lot better with compliments, than we Danes are. Yes, some of it is without doubt "auto-piloted" tradition/habbit - but courtesy and politeness have always supplied a great foundation for any social interaction, no matter how complex or superficial/everyday-like it may be

That is one special Optimo! How lovely! I'd love to see the OR too.
I hope you enjoyed Tennessee. Did'ja get over the plateau to visit the Smokies? Some beautiful country.
We are just entering Spring, which means snow is in the forecast.
It is a most beautiful time here, as long as you don't have allergies.
And yes, we are a polite lot, as behooves residents of a State with a surfeit of concealed handgun carry permits.

Thanks, Rick. I will post images of the OR, as soon as I have collected it at the post office. Well, OR or Western ... it's a cattleman's with a snap brim, three vents on the sides and a black knot-only one- or two-ply. I intend to change the ribbon to an OR-clone.

It was for sure a fantastic trip to TN. I didn't get to visit The Smokies this time, but they are very high on my to-do list, when I have moved. You can read more on that here

Frank, are you the guy who, when coerced into doing the weekly shop, finds all one thousand parking spaces full, in the supermarket carpark, except for the one, close to the entrance door, and just vacated as you drove in? I can't make my mind up if I hate you or envy you, no way am I ever that lucky.

Ole, that hat, I want, want, want. Compliments to you.

My first brand new Stetson arrived yesterday. Other Stetsons that I have, came from vintage fairs, this is the first ever brand new one that I have bought. Everything about it impressed me. The packing carton, the interior structure to hold the hat in place, the perfection that the hat is, the additional, feather, hat band adornments and the look of the hat when worn. I just love it, love it, love it.
