Here's a new Cavanagh lightweight (I hope) "derby" I picked up on Ebay for $4.99. I do not know the model, but it resembles some other great lightweights I have found & seen here. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Auction photos.

Nailed down a few icons in fine condition

NOS-ish DOBBS wide brimmed Foxhound & Hanover Square.

7.5 STRAT! :)

Not to mention this eighties lookin' thin ribbon Stetson with lotsa "negative taper" (as is said at COW) goin' on!
Let's see if it runs or tapers in the rain.

These were all waiting for me when I returned from holiday. Almost makes ya' wish for a quicker vacation, eh?

Well cripes!

...

The early 1940s Strats that have appeared here are unlined hats with thin unreeded sweatbands typical of the lightweight felts of the period. The Premier is a somewhat heavier felt but also unlined with a non-reeded sweatband. Both are more flexible and, to my mind, more luscious than their 1950s siblings. Perhaps there were other quality levels sold at this time, but I don't believe we've seen an example.

...just when I think I can cross off a particular model, another permutation is revealed!

WOW, RickB, incredible finds! Splendid!

Also, good to hear RLK is well. I knew others had missed his contributions as much as me. So long as all's well for him...

Nice, Rick ! I especially like the Hannover Square.

New arrival for me, a Courtney Fedora from Lounger havershaw's big auction last week. Still a little wet after having a shower prior to a rolling pin crease - hence the dots on the crown & brim.

Other than a couple of shallow divots on top side of the brim, the hat is like new.

Havershaw, I'm sorry you had to sell your collection, but you can be assured this one will be well taken care of. I wonder if any of the other hats found their way to Loungers?

Thanks, Alan. Creasing the hats is all the rolling pin (I should say pins since for some reason we have two identical ones) gets used for.

If we need pastry (as I did to make a pie, just last night) we get that Pillsbury unroll stuff. I can't even remember the last time my wife threatened me with a rolling pin - she must be getting mellow in her old age.

Ole, the problem with using the rolling pin on a pork pie hat is that it forces all that nasty jelly stuff into the felt which is hard to clean off.

Second American Legend arrived today. Not quite as bright as the photo suggests, but slightly brighter than I hoped for. It will need careful working into an outfit.

A slew of wonderful and fascinating acquisitions!

I like the red ("cabernet?"), Richard. Can't wait to see how you coordinate it.

David, the Courtney is gorgeous. Most excellent treasure!

A work in progress here. I took a 10X Stetson cowboy hat, cut the brim to 2 1/2 bashed it some and threw on a temporary ribbon. I think I'll take it into a pro, have it cleaned and really shaped nicely though. What do you guys think... The color on just the hat is pretty accurate...

Whoa, Richard. No man in gray look for you with that lid. Is that your closet? .....nice. Eager to see you throw an outfit together with that hat. I'm sure it will be great.

Honestly, Blackjack. I would have liked to see you retain a bit of the brim's width but overall I like the crown and the scale of the ribbon. Maybe a tan ribbon would go with more outfits IMHO.
