Andy, just was scanning back and saw the St. Regis...nice find. Hope the sweat replacement turns out perfectly for ya.

The St Regis was pristine on arrival. I'm sure a collector may never have put it on his head. But I'm not a collector. I know it will return from its R&R at VS with a perfect new sweat. Of course, there's already a Black Cherry on its way from Art's shop.

I got two new hats today! A vintage Wormser homburg in the mail and a vintage panama by Resistol from a local antique gallery.

I fished this sharp Schoble out of the Bay a little while back. It's not my size. Such a purchase just reveals the severity of my affliction. I just really liked it, tossed in a bid, and SURPRISE!

Like over 99% of the vintage hats out there, it is indeed too small, Richard. I guess I'm one of "the 1%-ers." That would be in hat size only...

I think it measures to about a 7-1/8.

I'm not quite as restricted as you, but I struggle enough with 7 1/2 -7 5/8. It's probably a good job I'm not a 7 1/8 or I would give in to temptation far too often for the bank balance

Was driving past an open-air flea market the other day when I spotted what looked to be a table full of hats. I pulled in to take and look and found these fedoras among them. The fellow was asking $4 each for them but I got them for even less, as I ended up buying the three hats plus three pair of shoes, all for a $20 bill. One (middle) looks cheap and modern, but the other two are gems.

I especially like the full crown of the one on bottom.

I believe the Portis Lite-Wate is a pretty rare hat, and that one is a beaut!

My first homburg – a Scott & Co made for Saks Fifth Avenue. Advertised by the seller as being from the 1930s but the phrase "By Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen" on the liner and sweatband suggests it can't be older than 1953. It was also advertised as a black homburg but I was pleasantly surprised to find upon opening the box that it's actually a midnight blue.

Not sure how to actually pull off wearing it in public though as the brim is rather on the flat side which I'm not used to at all.

Hey, I just scored one almost exactly like that off ebay not too long ago! Question: how is the fit of yours? Mine is marked as my size (7 1/4) but is so snug I can't really wear it.

region4 - A stellar homburg! I really like the liner detail. You made out well. Having the confidence to wear a homburg in public is only half as awesome as the compliments you will receive!! Go for it!! If you don't like the brim flat, try applying some steam and work it a little. It takes some time to work the right curl and break to for your tastes.

A trio of D Bar J hats just arrived here.
All of these are made with extremely stiff western bodies. I've had stiff western hats and these are stiffer and thicker than most westerns I've handled. These are just slightly more flexible than Stratton uniform hats.
